PS. I am rarely touched by the death of strangers, even if they entertained me. This gesture touched me as someone who has often complained about common culture being "private property". I don't begrudge any creator their money, but they need to accept that at some point, their work also belongs to the fans who made it theirs. Got a quote the other day for a new AC unit because ours is 19 years old and is starting to act up. I don’t think it will make it through another Florida summer. Hell, I don’t know if I’ll make it. It hit 94 here…and somehow people are still moving here.

Whenever the cats that have been in my life are doing dangerous stuff like that I hiss at them and chase them off. It's very effective at getting them to stop trying to kill themselves and it doesn't seem to upset them longterm

Here's another taste to whet your appetite: “I brought her flowers one dusky Tuesday evening when the light was perfect. To this day, I still don't know what went wrong.” (The character quoted had half his brain dug out as a child, some sort of viral epilepsy, replaced with some sort of electronics. He's basically hyper-autistic. He's also the unreliable narrator.) Blindsight is hard science fiction. The spaceship captain is a vampire, an obligate carnivore from the Pleistocene era, our ancient enemy. Yes, it works.
