The majority of humanity really believes in all seriousness that you can think magical thoughts and wishes in your head that an invisible, unprovable being hears. And they all see quite clearly that sometimes the wishes come true and sometimes they don't - just as would be statistically expected if the being didn't exist. But they completely ignore this by simply interpreting every outcome as the will of this being. This is an intellectual dishonesty and a blindness towards empirical reality itself that is downright astounding when you think about it.

Selbstchen, surely. Which also has the dubious honour of having six consonants in a row. Or Selbstli if you're fancy?

I don’t use it, but I’ve seen the video that a woman posted on LinkedIn of her sig heiling to prove that Elon didn’t make the “same gesture.” I’m convinced some people are just using it like regular social media, even if it makes them unemployable.

If you’re still curious: I’m a Data Analyst, I’m always curious! You’re getting absolutely railed on your connection charges; that’s like $4.88CAD a day!? I recently resigned with our provider so we only have 21 days of usage, we’re in summer, and we have a 5 bed, 3 bath two-storey home with solar panels for 4 adults and a child: [image: 6301a8ec-6faa-4f8a-a094-17385b3b9474.jpeg] Factoring in the exchange rate, $1CAD ~= $1.12AUD; just makes the comparison even worse. My state’s energy composition locally is ~35% renewables, mostly wind and solar, with the rest being a mix of natural gas, black & brown coal. As an aside, our feed-in tariff (i.e. how much we get paid to export excess solar into our grid) has absolutely cratered over the last few years: down from ~15c during COVID to only ~3.3c this year - it really incentivises us to explore solar batteries as an option.

Ladkris is sold everywhere, it's a nice treat and common for Christmas gifts. If you are in the UK, think Hotel Chocolate. In America, Godiva.

You sound just like people from the UK who talk about not liking the word fookin' used in jokes because they don't talk like that.

I wonder if they recommend 32 because 16gb is the minimum for maxed settings vanilla but they know everyone will have 2000 mods installed eventually and they are accounting for that.

OK... So when does the burnt out phase end??? Is it like a "build the studio and it'll happen" sort of thing? I can't really judge that well, burn out and all...

Tutoring psych right now - another big thing is the debrief. It needs to be something you can’t do without lying, something important enough to be worth lying about, and you must debrief the participants at the end. I really doubt the researchers went back and messaged every single person that interacted with them revealing the lie.

True, but to be fair, if I'd been watching Mr. Rogers as a kid and Big Bird showed up, ripped his own head off, and revealed a middle-aged man hiding inside, I probably would have been traumatized.

For sure. But I’ve repeatedly raised the point of how we need defensive infrastructure here in hopes that someone has the means and know-how to implement it. Additionally, this meme is more so about Reddit’s complicity with these groups’ bots (both as a company and as the userbase) and only taking action when somebody openly admits to using malicious bots.

I started programming as a kid way back in the ZX Spectrum days, and that one had even less memory than that. You can do a surprising large amount of functionality if you're hand-coding assembly (I actually made a mine-sweeper clone for the Spectrum like that). Even nowadays, there is the whole domain of microcontrollers, some of which are insanelly tiny (for example, the ATTiny202 which has 2KB flash and 128 Bytes of RAM) and you can do a surprising amount of functionality even in C since modern C compilers are extremelly efficient. (That said, that 202 is the extreme low end and barelly useful, but I do have an automated plant watering system I designed - complete with low battery detection and signalling - running on an ATTiny45, an older chip with twice as much flash and RAM). In my experience, if there is no UI on a screen (graphical elements tend to use quite a bit of memory plus if you're doing animation you need an in-memory buffer the size of the video memory to get double-buffering for smoothness and just that buffer can add up a lot of memory depending on resolution and bytes per pixel), using a compiled language which can optimize for size (like C) and not dragging in a ton of oversized libraries as dependencies, you can do a ton of functionality in very little memory - there are quite complex functional elements out there (like full TCP/IP stacks) that fit in a few KB of memory.

10€ is ~18AUD There's cheaper burgers, but I wouldn't really call them burgers with the cheap frozen patties and bread. It's definitely on the cheaper side though, as i've paid 14€ for a burger in the past. So I guess it's pretty much the same.

That’s probably because early Germanic languages formed the base of the early English language, even before we “added” a ton of French and other shit through (actual and) cultural conquest. If you look through language roots, English splits from Germanic at some point close enough to make the rules logical going from English to German but probably not the other way around, idk.
