So friends and me arguing over if Teleguard encrypts media too or only chats. My take is, everything, as stated on their site: -> Complex encryption system for all transmitted data... (plus it's swiss based).

Element says this on their site (2.4 Sharing Data in Compliance with Enforcement Requests and Applicable Laws; Enforcement of Our Rights): ... Shared information is exclusively limited to what we are technically able to see, which means end-to-end encrypted information is never accessed by our teams or shared externally. (U.S based)

So both encrypt media but Element saves them while Teleguard deletes the messages after receiving?

Is TeleGuard libre software? If it's not, which seems to be the case... Then NOBODY knows what TeleGuard does (aside from certain company members of course).

I would run in the other direction.

TeleGuard is not FOSS. We cannot be sure what they do. Plus, the control of their servers is centralised.

When using Element, you can decide which server to use. Also, all the appa are open source, the servers are too. You can host your own server too. I think vector (to identify people using email and phone number) is not libre.

I use Element with chat.tchncs.de as my server.

Thank you for the selfhosting aspect of it... worth a dive in.

Aside, by trying to register this shows up:

          *Allow access to your account?

app.element.io wants to access your account. This will allow app.element.io to:

See your profile info and contact details

View your existing messages and data

Send new messages on your behalf

Make sure that you trust app.element.io. You may be sharing sensitive information with this site or app.*

I would recommend using a native app, rather than a web app. If on Android, you can get Element or Element X from f-droid. Or you can also get third party apps like Fluffy Chat.

Teleguard fails to include a libre software license, like AGPL. We do not control it, anti-libre software.

Element is UK and EU-based, not US-based.

Thanks for the clarification. Changed it.
