What's the MAGA justification for closing the CFPB
-
You need to treat them like a religious sect. When you include the "faith" in the list of reasons why they do shit, it becomes easy to understand.
They are religious fundamentalists and are to be treated like such. Same way people don't need proof to believe in their god, magas don't need it either to believe in trump.
-
You have to remember part of the context of his poliltical rhetoric is that he copies so much of the playbook from Reagan, including the promise to reduce government. There is no further justification necessary, he is removing government regulation and bureaucracy, which is seen as a win by his constituents.
-
"What are you going to do about it"
It's just capitalism reaching it's natural end stage. The only surprising thing is that the 1% doesn't demand more subtlety, but maybe that's more of a democrat thing.
-
I DON'T AGREE WITH MOST OF THE FOLLOWING. what follows is simply my best guess.
Different people are going to have different reasons, the first two are the majority of the voters the rest are for the owner class.
- Take the following statements to be true: Taxation is theft, government action is evil. If you apply no other logic, many of the actions make sense. The CFPB is government action, therefore evil and should be removed.
- ANY regulation impedes the free market. CFPB is a regulation it impedes the free market
- It helps the selfish people doing it. They will be able to take more risky positions at the expense of the public and make money.
-
Don't waste mental energy looking for reason or competence. They did it because nobody can stop them, and they think they can gain money or power by doing it. That's always the motivation, and it doesn't make a difference to the response. We simply need to stop them.
-
Because it was Obama so it has to be bad
That's as far as the rationale goes
-
Some MAGoo posted that he was fine losing his job if it meant that Trump's policies were enacted. They are willing to eat a ton of manure if it means a lib has to smell their breath.
-
Because holding Rich People Accountable is WOKE DEI SOCIALISM!
-
It's simple. Consumer watch dogs are bad for exploitive profiteering. Musk is dismantling anyone with any oversight of his companies.
-
MAGAs have no reason. Probably it became a nuisance for credit card companies and banks due to enforcing rules against overdraft fees and deceptive lending practices. On the flip side, it's yet another trade regulating agency with an overlapping mandate on a hundred different industries, meaning any company in those industries has to comply with every one of those agencies' interpretation of the law. Speaking from experience here, that is a headache even to people with good intentions.
-
It’s part of the federal government. Also it’s been investigating Elons companies. These are the only two criteria necessary for firing thousands of workers and collapsing the department.
-
Musk is trying to start another financial institution under the X brand to handle everyone's money. The CFPB is the one agency that's likely to prevent it from screwing over anyone dealing with it.
As has been said before, the only reason to shut down the bureau responsible for preventing scams is if you want to scam people yourself.
-
There has been a concerted push by reactionary media to demonize it.
The same thing happened with issues like the estate tax, lawsuits against corporations, police reform, etc.
-
The Republican agenda for over 50 years has been to eliminate federal agencies. Reagan was overwhelmingly elected and he campaigned on closing Carter's recently created department of education.
If it's not explicitly in the constitution, they believe it should be operated by the states or by a corporation. It's not about "why do they want to close it", it's "why should this exist" - especially when (they think) a corporation could do it better. Bonus: corporations make money and you can invest in them to make money for yourself.
Generally, the idea is a very small federal government and more sovereignty for each state. It's easy to misunderstand this when conservatives are also calling for federal restrictions on health and freedoms. Don't fool yourself to believe there's consistency in politics.
The world was very different two hundred and fifty years ago. Our lives, commerce, and opinions are no longer impeded by state boundaries. The reason for this country to exist still remains but the context has changed. Anyone holding conservative ideas is, intentionally or not, holding this country back.
Moreover, if you think this administration gives a shit about anyone but themselves and corporations, you my sweet innocent child are truly out of the loop.
Again, going back to Reagan, Americans have been convinced that the government is bad and enriching corporations is good. Trickle down economics is still by and large considered good for workers. You give tax breaks to the billionaires and corporations and, in theory, they can employ more people. Of course we know now that trickle down economics has been a failure and that enriching the poor and middle class is best for the entire economy.
The United States is a failure. It came close but it doesn't scale. We need a new Constitution and Bill of Rights that more explicitly outlines the responsibility of the federal government and what The People can trust it to do for them. If you want a truly Democratic Republic, we also need to make election day a holiday, fund election campaigns strictly through taxpayer dollars, and implement ranked choice or STAR voting. Footnote - the new constitution would have to explicitly say election campaigns are an exception to any free speech clause because fuck Citizen's United.

From the top levels it's because they want all their business friends to be able to make money hand-over-fist. If you didn't go to the same ivy leagues or country clubs as this group, you are basically not a person to them.
And for everyone else toward the ground who vote for these people, it's because they're incredibly stupid and don't understand things. You will never, ever persuade them with arguments, facts, reason, or logic. It's pure gut-check layered on from decades of pure propaganda that tells them if their lives are worse off now, it's because of those <fill in the minority> taking their jobs, or <fill in the foreigner> who hates their 'freedom,' or <fill in the grassroots activist> who is coming in to try and push for laws that only make the cost of their goods rise.

Yeah but someday I will be a rich country club person. And then people like me better watch their step!
