What are some good algorithm free alternatives to YouTube?
-
Grayjay on Android. Ad-free, no algo, and no shorts. There's a section that shows you like the top 10 hottest videos on the platform, but in the subscriptions tab it has all the latest from who you are subbed to.

Youtube via RSS feeds.

How do you do that?

There aren't any because all ways of displaying any data at all involve an "algorithm". There are no "algorithm-free alternatives" to anything at all except not using computers at all.
Maybe think about what you're actually trying to ask, then ask that question again.
With New pipe I only see the channels I subscribe to. There's no home page, I just go to the list of channels and check if they have any new content.
I don't see how an algorithm comes into play when I'm manually subscribing and going through the list.

Use the NewPipe app or one of its forks. It shows onlY videos from your subscriptions.
This. It's gone down for a few days here or there. But then updates and it's all good. You can even watch shorts from the creators, although it's like watching a short video (can't scroll through them in succession as far as I know).

Freetube if you want to watch YouTube without algorithms.
Seconded. You subscribe to channels you like, and your feed is just the newest videos first. Plus built in sponser block.

I feel like we need to get away from Gulag's servers in general tho. They're closing in on the likes of Freetube.

YouTube patched via ReVanced, then browse without login.
On desktop, YouTube with uBlock, then browse without login.
Browsing without login still gives you an algorithm, but one for the lowest common denominator. I'd suggest using the subscription feed

I would not recommend using YouTube without login, if you plan on looking at the home page

Yewtube and/or ytdlp. I have a script which downloads any new videos from channels I typically watch. I use ytdlp to download music too
-
Pretty much just Peertube.
I see this mentioned every time - am I the only one only seeing 1 active creator (transport evolved) on there?
