The first thing to do is to largely rule out ‘peacekeeping’ as it is classically understood, as both a function and a euphemism for a deployment. Peacekeepers are normally impartial, operate with the consent of all parties and are intended to separate combatants.
I've written basically this text probably a ton of times online regarding people talking about peacekeeping (usually in response to people who have an idea that the UN has an army sitting around somewhere and the soldiers are just called "peacekeepers").
