Is there a "normie" or more mainstream instance for Lemmy?

Americans do not get their own definition for philosophies.

I seriously doubt most normies would enjoy Lemmy. But sh.itjust.works seems pretty middle of the road.

It's the same in most countries. In Canada, we put the NDP on the Left, Liberals generally centre Left, Conservatives on the Right and the Bloc... well, they do Bloc things.
Similar set up in most places. In common conversation, Left Right mean a standard political spectrum.
If I said I went to work, have I redefined Newtonian physics?

Thanks, I'll check it out!
I just love the idea of non corpo social media but to get the network effects to scale we need the normies...!

No, it isn't. Unless you are Eurocentric and ignore most nationsliberalism is where the left starts though liberalism isn't "leftist". The right is authoritarianism. This is true all around the world.

Those were definitely words!
Can you give a couple examples of countries where the major left party/parties is/are anti capitalist?

I don't think you understand leftism. Economic leftism (Socialism, Marxism, Communism) is inherently anti capitalist. The social spectrum of left and right is pointless. I am not necessarily a Liberal but I would define myself as a leftist. I do not consider liberals to be inherently leftists.

Like I've said repeatedly, in the popular context and most common words used by people, Left wing has different definition.
To re-use the example above, if I said I went to work, have I redefined Newtonian physics? Or would you understand that work has different meanings depending on context?

As you’ve seen from other comments the short answer is that it doesn’t exist. Honestly the most civilized place I’ve come across is on Tildes, which is not federated and an even smaller community. But it has the charm of earlier reddit days where people actually liked speaking with one another.

yes you would. you would see straight up imperialism apologia which is ok to their democrat audience i guess.
fuck i remember a post on r/arab getting nuked from the frontpage without a trace when they posted a video of the us bombings in iraq. a few similar ones but this is the one of the worst i remember.
the us has no significant left wing movement. maybe among the minorities.

Lemmy.world is pretty moderate left wing, your Democrat volunteering friend sounds like a crypto conservative.
I don't know if you've noticed, but global politics have taken a nasty turn, and mincing words to appease the appeasers tends to end in a "and then they came for me" scenario.
Instead of finding a milquetoast community where you can trade lukewarm takes while Reichstag burns to the ground, why not try to engage with people you might not see eye to eye, but may broaden your horizons and even change some of your attitudes.

I tried it and the owner calls himself “Deimos” (god) and acts like it. He bans people for any and no reason, including disagreeing with him. I ended up being banned for having an opinion about something he disagreed with.

I had hoped your question would yield some informative responses because as a normie I am struggling to find a more centrist space here. Every community from technology to memes is wall to wall “DEA TRUMP HITLER!?” I get it, I don’t like him, but surely there are other things to discuss besides that? The users are obsessed with American politics and as a non-American it’s exhausting and I think a little pathetic. Do they have nothing else going on in their lives?
The responses confirmed that the users don’t want opposing opinion and instead really, REALLY want an echo chamber. Message received.

I’ve been building a Lemmy client that tries to remove the friction that comes with the Fediverse (Quiblr
For onboarding, users can naturally pick any instance, but I set lemmy.world as the default because the admins are super responsive and they’ve taken steps to scale effectively. Hopefully, this results in a smooth experience for new joiners
