Yeah it ain't great. Not the worst, but not great. Now, we should work on bettering the law.

This reminds me of the GDPR, where operations by private companies where rightfully put into boundaries, but at the same time permitted usages by government entities were significantly expanded.

I tried to check my eligibility for rent support in Germany on Wohngeld.org today, and they require third party cookies. That’s fun.

Well it's a private page in no way affiliated with any government entity.
I don't know what's your point there

My city sent me a letter telling me to visit that website before making an appointment with town hall. That’s a strange way to be unaffiliated with any government entity.

Well it's still a Website run by a private corporation. Maybe your town isn't run very professionally. Most towns have their own explanation site
The one run by the German Ministry for Building and Renting is this one. And it has a calculator too. I don't get why they would link to that one

Maybe it’s not run efficiently, but that’s not something I really have control over. The fact is, a government entity is compelling me to use a website which requires cookies before I can access a social service in the eu. I could probably go to the office without doing that, but the letter states it’s required, so they’ll get a lot of data from people assuming their government isn’t lying to them.
That’s fucked up.

Just use the calculator from the state website. They can't force you to use this stupid website.

I went to the library, so I’m not worried about myself, though it’s good to have another option. I just wonder how many of the people in my city are going to look for other options, vs how many will just agree to share cookies. If a quarter of people here do the latter, that’s tens of thousands of people.
