Sliced bread needs to be kept in moisture proof bags to prevent staling and unfortunately that increases mold.

It was also intended to counteract a rise in the price of bread, caused by the Office of Price Administration's authorization of a ten percent increase in flour prices.

This is how I find out that the US had an office for food price and rent controls (which was of course sabotaged by private companies and Republicans)
