Tim Apple is literally a financial contributer to the Trump presidency. They are not being shy about their support. I'm Suprised it took them this long, but they've always been a bit behind with their maps project.

Hot take, but I'd actually be fine with the US calling it the Gulf of the Americas since it is a shared gulf by north and south America. There are examples like the south China Sea and the Persian Gulf that have different names depending on what country you are in. But calling it the Gulf of America is just dumb.

That opens another can of worms, since the continent is called America, and the country that appropriated it is The United States of America. Calling the continent “Americas” implies that USA is the original America.
As recent as the 80s it was still called America by everyone except USA and some countries of Europe.
