That’s odd; my Apple Maps says “Gulf of Mexico” and searching for “Gulf of America” shows 0 results.
Unlike Google Maps/Earth….

You have to access it from a US IP address to get the new name.
From a UK or German IP address, Google maps has it as Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)

hmm I wondered this too. I have a ton of starred places as well as some custom lists. I wasn't able to find anything to do it, but would also be interested in this.

To be fair, the entire history of humanity is full of exactly that. These are mostly just aimed at and recognized by the US. Same as Russia currently renaming occupied villages. Nobody else recognizes those, it’s just not that special or important at this point, with all of the other shit going on.
Ultimately, the names of places change. All the time. And will continue to change. It’s just what we do as humans. Somebody uses force and swings their dick around and locally others have to either swallow or punch the fucker. Elsewhere people fight similar fights and care very little about the other dickswingers far away.
But google shows this imaginary trump name around the globe, not just in America. That is different to how google handles the fantasy names for lands China and Russia claim they are theirs..

Wrote App Store review, then deleted maps. Installed Organic Maps to replace.

I've been struggling without public transportation in Organic. It kinda works? Like it shows the path but doesn't actually show the stops or station names

Exactly. Just use OpenStreetMap and move on. It's still the Gulf of Mexico for me. I use Organic Maps.

I hope it becomes usable. If they hold there promise. Linux Wayland apps could be run through emulation layer, FreeBSD apps would run native and many MacOS apps should work out of the box.

As someone from the outside, you wouldn't even see the US specific naming. If complaining in a bug report about the fact and threatening to abandon the platform in favour of Linux is all you can do, man, don't bother xD.

Beyond this, do you think Apple can actually take any other position than aligning with fascism? That was always going to happen. They literally can't help but align with fascism- this is the culmination of late stage capitalism.

The world today has nothing to do with the world 200 years ago. GAFAM are controlling the way information is shared and it's very, they are more powerful then anything humanity has ever seen. It's Big Brother from 1984.
