I saw this series last year called Extrapolations, and even though the story itself wasn't necessarily that good I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to see how the future might look. I've read a lot about rising temperatures and extreme weather but this show really helped me visualise how those things might impact me and the generations after me. It's not a disaster movie like The Day After Tomorrow or 2012 where everything goes wrong all of a sudden, but rather a set of stories where things gradually get worse. Hopefully they will never get as bad as in the last few episodes but I believe the whole thing is backed by science and shows things that will actually happen if we do not do enough about climate change.

This is bad for the people in those homes, but good for global tempurate.

Unfortunately not when a lot of those homes will end up getting AC to survive the ever increasing heat. Unless of course they are mostly powered by green energy, so maybe there is some hope!

Can't believe there are idiots that still deny climate change. Here in the MENA it's been brutal, frequent droughts, dangerous air quality and insane levels of heat in summer (and average days too, but it's only 33 celsius right now so not too bad). 1,300 people died last year in my city alone

But yeah... climate change is a hoax. 🙄

G'day mate, yeah us hot regions are getting screwed faster and harder by climate change. One saving grace is we've been building places to handle the heat for longer.

Green energy also requires resources though, i meant it is good for the planet they don't have any of course it won't be good once they get one.

Hope you aussies are doing well in this. ACs are genuinely a necessity here, i was incredibly surprised that they didn't air condition every single building in european countries.

What's even funnier is that my country's infamous for shit climate handling + huge use of fossil oils, we're causing our on collapse xd. Hopefully we'll become net-zero and actually adhere to the pledges. Hopefully you all will too 😄

When it's hot during the day there is usually sun too.
Solar makes this problem less worse

We should be converting people to heat pumps, that way we can transition away from gas for heating and have both heating and cooling from green energy. This will reduce the carbon footprint overall and give people AC.

Australia is a big country with trucks delivering stuff everywhere which makes for a huge part of out climate contribution. Per capita we're in the doghouse for emissions standards, fortunately there's not a lot of us.

Uneducated on austrian politics; why are people voting for this party? Dunno who they are, but from your comment it sounds stupid to vote for them.

This is happening in Switzerland. So many people want to switch to heat pumps there's a years long queue for the craftsmen's time and the machines themselves

Perhaps the denial is more widespread there because in the wealthy oil dictatorships there is no other industry, at all. The saudi dictator is trying to diversify but let's not kid ourselves, the economy is still 95% oil

What's really crazy is that Europe will soon need most homes to have central heating. With the AMOC collapse hurrying along, Europe will actually fall off in temp soon and be more like Canada. Meanwhile the eastern USA will be flooded and very hot because the current stopped pulling hot water away from the coast.

Give that like 20 years or so. Maybe less.

For those affected by it. But it's called global climate catastrophe for a reason.

Nothing against you, but I know that some people would use that argument in earnest.

Heating and cooling buildings both cost immense amounts of energy, but in places where spaces are heated the global rise in temperature generally means less energy is needed for heating because it is less cold. I don't have the experience that discussions about this favour the ones living in colder climates over the ones living in warmer climates, but if you feel this is personal let me say that you shouldn't sit in scorching heat just because the world fucked up and shouldn't feel bad about using an airconditioning. Spending a long time in high temperatures actually kills people. I was not in any way saying the people who right now don't have airconditioning should not get one, just that it is better for the global temperature a lot of people don't have one.

And the most common sentiment about climate change right now among KTU civil engineer students is "oh stop shoving this climate bullshit down our throats" and it isn't even exclusive to the fucking students.

Makes me mad listening to it.
