I'm gonna be honest. I don't get the hype.

We really don't need celebrity role models.
wrote on last edited by [email protected]Totally agree, but unfortunately we do have them and it's nice when some are not raging assholes.

“I’m more aware of disgruntlement around my casting than anything I’ve ever done. ‘He’s too old. He’s not right. He needs to shave,’” Pascal said
Tell me you haven't seen Pedro act with takes like those.
Meh. I like him. I just think he’s cast too often. Hollywood has this problem where they cast the same people over and over because they are “bankable”. But does the same actor really need to play three or four different superheroes?

"I can't say why I really don't like him because people will judge me."

I do agree with you. I want to see more of him and plenty of other actors, but they don't need to be in all the movies for a few years and then kicked to the curb to chase the next fad.

We really don't need celebrity role models.
We need people of all walks of life and all professions to be role models.

Using his platform to combat transphobia is nice.

I like him, but if I’m being honest in the Mandalorian
::: spoiler Tap for spoiler
He took his helmet off and it felt so out of place because of his moustache
:::Imo Prince Obryen is still his best role

Despite his similar look, when I watch him in mandalorian, narcos, got, or Last of us, i forget im watching an actor and get sucked into the character. To me that makes him one of the few this generation who can pull it off.
Also as a Latino love him and he’s proud to be Latino, unlike Oscar Isaacs who goes out of his way to erase his Latino background. Also love Diego Luna

I can understand trying to do what you think will get you roles, especially in a current and post-Trump America, but I think diversity is incredibly special. Like, I want to know and understand all of what makes a person the icon that they are, and celebrate it with them.
I'm probably totally biased by the multicultural influences and experiences in my life.

Maybe that could be the reason I don't see the hype. I never particularly noticed anything in his roles. He's pretty good but that's all for me. Oscar Isaac on the other hand, idk he was Latino but his roles make me feel like he stands out. Idk how to say it.

I think it's mostly a combination of a) Hollywood liberals love to elevate safe non-white celebrities who don't rock the boat and b) there hasn't been much variety in leading men over the last decade (regardless of cultural/ethnic background) so people are enjoying seeing a new handsome face alongside the usual sex symbols like Ryan Gosling and Jake Gyllenhaal. I agree that Pascal is not really worthy of this level of hype on his performances alone.

There's quite a large number of right wingers in Hollywood , usually they turn out to be shitty actors. Or they are forced to leave the industry because of the controversy they are getting, or about to get. Like a certain someone that has been hamming up in reddits AMA, as a veteran lover, and him conveniently leaving "acting" when he announced coming out as a right winger last year

If we need them is up for debate, but by being will known your conduct ribs off on people, therefore you are a role model, like it or not.
Now we're in the post-truth and post-decency era where crass monied men seem to do whatever the fuck they like, it's healthy seeing people adhering do common decency.

Yeah this is a shit take (who you’re replying to, not yours) , role models exist, celebrities exist, it’s good to have role models who are also celebrities who are also not shit people.

The Mandalorian alone shows how good he is. He did 90% of it fully covered, all body and speech.
He crushes his role in game of thrones too.
He is a good actor with good range and more importantly he isn’t “stiff”
