I have shingles and gout
-
I opted for corrugated metal and sciatica, personally.
-
Luckily mine's pretty mild but I had no idea what was going on so when I got a weird rash and massively swollen lymph node on one side of my face I went to the doctor.
-
The weather is trying its best to get me to throw my back out. Still, the four inches of sleet we got yesterday didn't break me.
-
Thanks for the tip. I get them every six months or so without much change in my diet so I might get on allopurinol in the future.

Naproxen, otc in Ontario...instant relief for gout
-
If you’ve had chicken pox, definitely go get the shingles vaccine.
They won't let you get it until you're 50 yo. I've had multiple friends under 50 get it and be wrecked by it.
-
Thanks for the tip but naproxen never works for me, even if I take double the recommended dose. Tylenol and aspirin also don't work. The only thing that works for me and both my kids is ibuprofen.
But a road trip to Ontario sounds like a good time.

Sounds like a Jim E. Brown song
-
Owww. You have my sympathy. Have had both, not at the same time. Shingles seems to come and go at random. Gout I've been able to control long term by eating less meat, especially seafood, more veggies.

Naproxen, based on dosage, is available over the counter in the US too.
It takes a little research (usual prescription dose) and a little math (adding up OTC shit to the prescription dose) and you can get the same effect for a few bucks for a big box generic.
I used it for a LONG time for various pains. I went from playing hockey, to retail, and... man, both can leave you in pain. Especially if half of everyday is unloading trucks box by box. Thankfully, I'm out of that line of work for the most part... but I moved from a major city to a rural area and I'm desperate for work, so we shall see.
Naproxen does work, for most. I had a pharmacy tech cert, and I can say that every med doesn't work for every person. There is no panacea.
That being said, overuse can contribute to stomach ulcers. They suck. They hurt. You have to change most of your habits.
Though, I will say, if you want to get out of work because you don't feel well (because ulcers) vomiting blood from 5 actively bleeding ulcers will make even a shitty walmart manager condone your absence.

Just gotta make it 4 more years (damn).
-
Take me to the river.
-
Sorry, sentence structure...were your friends under 50 wrecked by shingles, or the shingles vaccine?
-
I'm not convinced Tylenol/acetaminophen is medicine. In my experience, Diet Pepsi is a more effective treatment for a headache. Though that might just be my terminal caffeine addiction talking.
-
Wrecked by Shingles. I'd love to get the vaccine right now to avoid what they went through.
-
I really wish the NIH or CDC would do an ad campaign for "Shingles vax is great if you're over 50, but shingles can happen to younger people too. Learn to recognize these symptoms of shingles and get treatment right away!"
Yeah, good luck with that these days. But I did get shingles at 40, got treatment right away and the rash (on my face, associated with the dental -injection nerve) stayed smaller than a quarter and stayed away from my eye.
-
I agree. Sadly, we'll have to look outside our country in the near future for these kind of medical notices. NIH and CDC are being gutted before our eyes.
