Turnips are objectively more terrifying than pumpkins when carved for Halloween. That's their main fame.

The species B. napus originated as a hybrid between the cabbage (B. oleracea) and the turnip (B. rapa).
Maybe "cabnips" or "turbages".

They are staple flod in Norway, or used to be. To such an extent that one of the traditional christmas dishes has rutabaga/swede mash as a side dish.
Rich in vitamin C, so I have heard it being called the "Orange of the North"
