A bit awkward at first, but you get used to it. Cultural difference - in that area people are used to sharing small spaces with lots of people. It’s just the way of life.

That’s basically a fireplace. It uses wood.

funny thing but it's one of my most common nightmares to have to share a bedroom with my parents

Its very cost efficient to do so too!
I admire such cultures as i could never live with it, but its awesome to see! That said, hopefully the parents were out and about for a while... XD

i had to search for my words.
A stove or range is a device that generates heat inside or on top of the device, for -local heating or cooking. Stoves can be powered with many fuels, such as natural gas, electricity, gasoline, wood, and coal.
it's correct though it may not be habitual for native English speakers from certain localities

Thankfully they’re heavy sleepers + us under the covers / keep quiet… we made due.

do they share the room all year or is it only in the winter because it's easier to heat one room with wood?

All year. The house is very small. It’s basically that room + kitchen / place to eat + a hallway. The toilet is outdoors.

For those wondering, that's apparently called a masonry stove, specifically a tiled stove. These were pretty common where I'm at and people still sometimes keep them for decorative purposes.

My grandma still uses one. Have to get wood for her every year.

German here. Those are still quite common on the countryside. My parents and my aunt have one, some neighbours too.

Does he live there year round? How did you meet? His parents didn't have an issue with you staying even though you're unwed?

Yeah. We met on a language exchange app. Not at all, quite the contrary, lol. They were excited.
