Banned from Multiple Socialist Subs for Calling Out Russia—Why Is This?
-
Hey comrades, I’ve noticed a troubling trend. I’ve been banned from multiple socialist subreddits simply for criticizing Russia—whether it’s their imperialism, repression, ultra-capitalist ideology, or other issues that should be obvious to any leftist. It seems like some spaces have an unspoken (or very spoken) rule that any critique of Russia is off-limits, even when it’s entirely in line with socialist principles.
Why is this happening? Has anyone else faced similar bans for calling out Russia or other authoritarian states that don’t align with socialist ideals? It’s frustrating to see some leftist spaces falling into this trap when socialism should be about international solidarity, not uncritical defense of any state. Would love to hear other experiences.

Short answer: Because certain instances here on lemmy are known as the tankie-triad who support Russia solely because they're opposed to the western world. Therefore Russia can do no wrong. It would've had the same result if you'd been critical of China.
EDIT: Oh, subreddits... well, tankies exist outside of lemmy too.

How do you keep finding yourself on submarines? I've been around for a long time, and I've never been on a sub. I've never even been close enough to ask one about its ideology. Multiple subs? Damn.

I've had that same question all my life. It's as if so many of them are still under the impression that Russia is communist somehow.

It's incredibly common tankie propaganda to depict Russia as somehow returning to, and defending, a modern form of socialism. Which many tankies eat up eagerly since the modern Russian state descends from the Soviet one, and Russia was (up until 2 months ago) the largest enemy of western capitalist/liberal democracies.

Maybe those subs have rules or guidelines that the conversation should be more about philosophy than current events. If you go into an sub dedicated to cars and keep posting things about Pokemon, then it would be irrelevant to the sub. You should bring receipts so people can make a fair assessment.

Not having seen what you posted, and assuming there's not purposeful censorship involved, I can only offer this bit of advice.
How you say a thing matters as much as what thing you are saying.
