A practical guide for de-googling and canceling data from the Internet

Favoriting, thank you.
Just my two cents: Might be a good idea to put a list of all the URLs through your post at the bottom. Might make it more accessible for others, and clean up the format of your post to give it the attention it deserves.

I just started my degoogling journey and this is amazing. Thanks for putting this together!

Yes, I'm gonna do that. It seems it lost the original format when I pasted it. (I wrote it before on LibreOffice Writer)

I've switched to a Google Pixel with GrapheneOS as part of my continuing deGoogle. Thanks for this, its further ideas to work on. One recommendation I would add however is that people use Obtainium instead of F-droid. This article is a pretty goof summary of why: https://privsec.dev/posts/android/f-droid-security-issues/
Its definitely more friction to get apps installed but once they are installed, I find Obtainium better for automatic updates than F-droid.

Hypatia, and all other Divested apps, are dead. The Dev (Tavi) is done with their Android projects.

I spend a lot of time learning to protect my privacy but this is just... so much. I really wish someone would release a phone with all the essentials on this list installed as starter apps. A lot of people want these things but don't have the time or technical expertise to learn. Surely it'd be a great business opportunity!

There is a fork that is available on the izzyondroid repo
-
Given the numerous App stores listed, consider consolidating to Obtainium, since it can install from all of them, or direct from developers repo releases.
-
Is using app manager the same as jailbreaking? Could that be a security risk?

Thanks for everything. I started all the degoogling but damn, it will take times, but it is worth it. The email tips is nice. I should start doing this, I would like if possible to be the one that host my emails. Also, there is a website: https://european-alternatives.eu/ which can help regarding changing to European services instead of USA ones. However, not all of them are open sources

Using app mamager and many other apps listed here requires root privileges. This means that you are able to modify almost everyrhing on the phone. From one side you are basically free to do what you want, on the other is true that becomes easier to escalate privileges. It is also true that if someone targets you and wants to hack your phone, he is gonma do that in any case because there are a lot of other security holes anyway. If you are using a GNU/Linux operating system, you have to deal daily with root privileges and this is not considered a problem. On phones its problematic to let users play with them because many of them will brick their phones like nothing so, it was chosen to limit the power that the user can have but this is an injudtice for who wants to do something more technical. In my opinion, the pros of having root privileges unlocked surpasses the cons. Especially if you mitigate the risks by doing regular backups and not putting all your life in your phone.

Fare enough. I can finally get rid of one drive from my Samsung phone!
