The U.S. just hit its lowest score ever on an international corruption measure
-
Right? This only tracked through 2024. It's about to get much worse.
-
The last 3 weeks have already surpassed Russia, and every 3rd world "shithole" country.
-
And that's saying something!
-
-
-
If you take a peek at world history there are certainly some reasons for that correlation, and it's not a pretty story.
-
Have no fear it will only get worse from here.
-
Dang, Norway and Sweden are doing great things.
-
Not really. Just look at eastern Europe and Russia.
-
During the Trump/Musk presidency? What are the odds!?
-
I'm not sure we should put much faith in these scores.
I see Canada looking pretty yellow here, but we just had a provincial government call an early election and send out $200 bribe cheques. Sure they don't call it a bribe, but I haven't gotten a paper cheque from the government in years (direct deposit, yay) and now I have a paper cheque and a voter card showing up in my mailbox just days apart. It's getting pretty obvious over here.
-
What? With Trump running the country like a mafia protection racket? How could that be?
-
it only covers data through 2024.
Start digging a hole.
-
In the last decade or so, when people called USA a 3rd world country, it was mostly tongue in cheek.
Not anymore.
-
Tbf, I was calling it 3rd world country with iPhones. Although I'm pretty sure the USA was one of the countries that invented the terms "1st/2nd/3rd world countries" as a way of dividing themselves from the brown poors
-
Shit! So I guess we better do something about it?
-
Also it's corruption perception, which is used as a proxy because actual corruption is basically impossible to measure, but it also makes the whole thing culture-dependent. Namibia is a good example: They consider themselves more corrupt than South Africa which they definitely aren't, they just have a lower tolerance for shenanigans.
-
This score will plummet...
South Sudan better watch out! We're coming for their spot!
-
Just wait until the conservatives get into power. Why else do you think that PeePee is looking at America and furiously taking how-to notes? The entire party is no different from the Republicans.
-
Yeah, the fact that Russia is so red in this picture leads me to believe that something is off when it came to collecting the data. Russia doesn't exactly have freedom of speech, for instance.
