The /r/piracy link to lemmy /c/piracy hit the reddit frontpage with 7K+ updoots!

Is there a problem with Lemmy.world? I joined this one to avoid tankies, but I haven't gotten familiar with the place yet (despite moderating a community lol).

Especially important to understand decentralization when it comes to topics like piracy. Unlike Reddit, a non-commercial Lemmy instance isn't going to be shut down by a CEO who is worried about how it might affect their ability to sell ads. But, admins can get threatened, they can get overwhelmed, they can get hit by a bus. It's good to know how how to find other communities on other servers, etc.
-
And this is why lemmy can feel unwelcoming lol

It's fine.
The occasional complaint I see is not enough that I've considered moving and I don't even remember what those were. But the great thing about the fediverse is that you can move if you want!

It's a bit of a mixed experience. Overall, federation has its benefits, but it also tends to encourage cliquish behavior among groups. Sometimes, entire servers get blacklisted for various reasons. Reddit has a lot of corners that don't violate its current ToS, but in federation, ToS isn’t usually about pleasing the most people and pulling them into your platform, it's more about the ideals of your server admin team. That’s a good thing, I suppose. It’ll be interesting to see how things play out with Lemmy federations when Reddit bans porn.

Honestly I never have to do it unless I'm extraordinarily bored and have nothing better to do.

Agreed. New Reddit is terrible. I find having to flip to different pages to get to deeper replies particularly annoying.

I just read another comment (not sure if in this thread or another) saying that lemmy.world and lemmy.ml links are banned on Reddit. No idea if it's really true or not though.

Sorry to hear

Instead of manually editing the URL you can use an add-on like this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/old-reddit-redirect/
