congrats, that was my first step to YouTubing everything i had to replace and being incredibly surprised that most things on a car are about as simple to replace as the battery.

and even now, a battery replacement is really satisfying for me.

Nice work. My experience is it's a crapshoot because cars aren't designed to be worked on these days but instead to be build quickly by machines. I've spent stupid amounts of time accessing water pumps. Anyway, glad the battery project turned out great.

you know what, whenever I buy a car I do research how easy it is to repair first, and it's probably one of the largest considerations before I make a purchase, so I guess I'm angling the odds in my favor.

Man, my first time was a 850CCA. Monster battery on a V8 7.8lt with a Holly 4 barrel carburetor. The old man's shop I got it from kept it on an old trickle charge but the man didn't top off the water, you'd need to take the two caps off every now and then to fill it with some water, occasionally add some acid to it.

Now my SUV has a AGM battery behind the rear seats and measures how much current the seat warmer uses.

Hell of a lot has changed in 50 years.

I love that you have a foot in both worlds. Carburetor in one hand, federated instance in another. You're my hero, dude.

                    Important questions like:

                    • How many and what kind of computers are needed to fix the car computers/program in new parts?
                    • At what unholy degree do my hand and wrist need to bend in order to change a bulb?
                    • Hell, does it even have bulbs or is it one of those horrific LED modules that cost limbs/children?
                    • Buttons and dials, or stupid screens?

Gotta buy old or very poor specced new to get repairability features it seems.

That's the crucial bit though. Currently faced with having to replace rubber bushing on rear suspension; I quickly realized it's too much for me even at my friend's well-equipped garage.

It's an Optima Yellowtop, which is what I saw most people online recommend for the Prius.

Nice! I could tell instantly it was a Prius. I am never thrilled to replace the battery in mine. If you don't get that black tubing back there reseated and bolted in properly it gets incredibly loud and annoying.

On the other hand, the dealership charges almost $200 in labor to change it, so I am learning to love the process.

Really? I replaced the entire suspension on my car (swapped to coil overs) and it was relatively painless save for some rusted bolts.

And I'm very much just a shade tree mechanic lol

                                      A 93 Mazda Miata and a 2010 Subaru WRX.

And by "entire suspension" I meant front and back, and both sides haha
