(OC) Husband, daughter and I said goodbye to the US and hello to Thailand in 2024. Here's the view from our house:
-
Rent is 65000 baht (~2000 USD) per month.

Welcome to APAC! It takes about 20 years to see all the best parts and every year after that is discovering more.

Did you get a job there before moving? I've been contemplating emigrating from the US, but it's such a steep upfront cost

How well did you all know Thai or Lao when moving and establishing your residence?

Husband is a startup entrepreneur. I’m a housewife. We’re here on a “SMART” Visa: https://smart-visa.boi.go.th/smart/. He makes enough money to provide us with a good, comfortable life.

$2000 per month is just fucking ridiculous if you're not mortgaging it.

Husband did all of that. And yes, in his case it was quite a process. For the visa he got these are the requirements:
• Deposit of ≥ 600,000 baht which has been held for at least 3 months
• Health insurance
• Participating in an endorsed incubation, acceleratorprogram or a similar program/or obtaining joint venture with or being endorsed by a relevant government agency
• Must set up a company in the targeted industries in Thailand within 1 year with at least 25% ownership orbeing a board member
