That's why I drive an older gmc pickup
Barely ever breaks and when it does it's stupid simple to work on
Imagine owning a car newer than like 2010 lol that's for suckers
my cruise control keeps me from crashing into the car in front of me, in the fog. that alone is worth having a car newer than 2015.

The violent rumbling is actually a relaxing massage.
ahh, my butt needed a glrbl on the wrbls

Sacramento Police department has a helicopter, Air One, that the department is super proud of. I live in a not-rich neighborhood where Air One likes to hang out and help which sometimes includes shouting inaudibly on the PA. Air One has its own webpage which is sometimes current about what it's doing, but not always.
Air One also likes to fly low enough that we can hear the thumping of the rotors through our apartments. At 11pm on a school night. We know it doesn't have to because the rescue choppers zing by quietly on their way.
And lately Air One has gotten, whinier. This loud screeee! that wasn't their before that makes me think something in the rotors is not sufficiently oiled, or something is about to fall apart. I wonder if Air One is soon going to make an unscheduled landing in my neighborhood.

You shouldn't be driving if you rely on stuff like that.

What kind of dystopian future is this?

I understand, it could be useful in foggy situations. But preventing a crash should be the exception, not normal, even in fog!

No noises after 105100km on my Toyota
(65000 miles for my fellow freedom lemmyers)

As a mechanic, you can pay me now to deal with it, or 10x as much if you ignore it.
As a “mechanic” myself, I can say: many people mean, if we wouldn’t have the TÜV (car inspection) every 2 years in Germany, they would neglect so much!
I’m talking, no oil change, no new tires, even with barely any profile left, no new brakes… -

Do you follow the suggested service program?

Bei uns in der Schweiz ist es typischerweise so 5, 3, 2, 2, 2, 2 Jahre. Aber wie immer sind wir zu föderalistisch, als dass es einheitlich wäre

wrote on last edited by [email protected]That doesn't happen to me. Useless feature. My truck has 330000 kms on it and I've never crashed except offroading lol
My parents have new vehicles and these things are more distracting than they are useful
Literally all cruise control needs to do is maintain speed and be easily turned off

If you need an assist to not go straight into a car in front of you you're objectively a bad driver lol. If its foggy AF you slow down.

if you legitimately need me to explain to you how to use adas, i'd be delighted. y'all just be getting in arguments because you're upset i pay less for gas, insurance, repairs, and just about everything else for my car than you.

My last car was a tiny 20 year old 1.1 shitbox that cost me ÂŁ300 a year in insurance and cost me ÂŁ400 in spare parts over 3 years of ownership and I could get 200-250 miles off a ÂŁ30 tank of petrol but ok. I also had zero incidents driving in all of those years in a car thats most advanced piece of cabin technology was a tape deck.

I’m talking, no oil change, no new tires, even with barely any profile left, no new brakes…Same in the UK. We have an annual MOT tests and even with that some drivers let their cars slide so much.

wrote on last edited by [email protected]It would help if there wasn’t a tendency for mechanics to fleece people who don’t understand cars. When I looked like a young woman, huge difference in the way I was treated - I needed to bring my dad.
Hell, the entire industry seems to be built on fleecing people. My stepdad was a finance guy for dealerships and he would fuck over anyone, friends and family included.
I’d love to opt out of car ownership entirely, but that’s literally the only way I can get to work. Need to pay a dickload to maintain the thing that gets me paid.
