Greenland visit cancelled after locals refuse to welcome Usha Vance

You don't think diplomatic immunity would apply? I'm sure the secret service would just sit there while a hundred people swarm. Enjoy your fantasy, but that would never happen irl.
Diplomatic immunity applies to criminal charges.
This is different, this is not diplomatic in any way, the only issue is that the government is bound to protect foreign dignitaries and foreign citizens.
HOWEVER: a state of hostility can be interpreted, and since there is no formal diplomatic delegation this can be interpreted as a hostile incursion.
In any case, since they have been asked not to come Greenland has 0 obligation to protect them in any way, and they have 0 diplomatic protection as persona non grata.

Diplomatically, this is as good as it gets, unfortunately.
And Vance's wife, compared to Trump, Melania, and JD, is exceedingly capable at putting a reasonable face on this shit-stain of a regime, which makes it all the more satisfying that she's being rebuffed the same as any of the others.

It uses dumb!
It's not very effective.
It's actually been shockingly effective.
-
what the fuck did they expect? a welcoming party to rival none other? With drumpf constantly going on about how he's gonna take greenland? JFC. Fucking morons.

Putin's men thought Ukrainians would welcome them with open arms too...

Putin also thought he could steamroll over Ukraine. 3 years and nearly a million russian troops later, Ukraine is still holding their own.

Obviously. I was just drawing a parallel between Putin's and Trump's propaganda.

Yeah, I goofed. You're right.
What are answers that let you know you aren’t on Reddit for $200 Ken.
-
Good job, Greenland! Proud of you. Every country should do this.

I know. I was agreeing with you.

It wouldn't surprise me if they did think that. They're still stuck on American Exceptionalism and little self awareness. They pretend trump is JFK and we're back in the Camelot era. Let that sink in.
Nothing exceptional about us anymore...if there ever was

Moment "American representatives were seen walking around the city" they were outside the base? That would have been the moment to do the same as America and have them arrested directly... Shouldn't be a problem legally, after all, it's about national security and there have already been more than enough hostile statements and indirect announcements of war.
-
Even more interesting is that her mother (VP Vance's mother-in-law) was instrumental in advancing DEI at the university she works at (UCSD).
I would pay a lot of money to see a journalist ask JD Vance if he approves of his mother-in-law's work in promoting DEI. Just knowing how awkward that next family gathering would be would make it worth it.
Their family dinners must be fun... /s

In fairness, the Second Lady has traditionally taken on various projects, although usually of a kids/education/health/humanitarian angle. Nancy Reagan was particularly well known for her various causes. Michelle Obama was advocating child literacy and healthy lifestyle I believe.
Not defending her at all, but I think it's important to keep our facts and histories straight.
Last one wasn't even a lady - I don't remember Doug being in the news until the 2024 campaign, although Wikipedia lists plenty of things he did in the role.

THIS! IS! GREENLAND!!!
-
I’d meet her, so as I could ask her how she can stand by these awful policies …but I’m not a woman. Or from Greenland.

THIS! IS! GREENLAND!!!
OMG. I have it! Eureka! Replace the well with a glacial crevasse!

Usually American soldiers and military personnel are exempt from local policing. In Germany, they couldn't be stopped for a traffic control or asked to identify themselves by German police, only US military police. There even was a guy that got away with murder because of this.

I was immediately reminded of the g20 summit in Hamburg (not because of America)
