What mental disorders are generally implied by the manic pixie dream girl/guy trope but for real people who get likened to it?

I wanna say Borderline
Also what happens if one of both genders dates each other? How do they interact or play off each other?
Ahem, what if you find out you ARE one??

Probably bipolar? I'm sure they get badly depressed some of the time.

Excuse my ignorance, but what on earth is the "manic pixie dream guy/girl" trope? Is that like a person who is whimsical and while also being a complete and utter psychopath.

Hmm, not what I expected:

I was thinking of someone I knew, who I would have thought fit the description and has mood swings.

Generally a young a beautiful free spirit (usually a woman) with an eccentric and quirky personality who "saves" the protagonist of a story by being fun and interesting and showing them life is worth living. Think Holly Go Lightly from Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Mania is the defining symptom of bipolar. Like if you have ever been literally manic, you have bipolar

From my and my partners experience, our autism gets labelled as this often enough to be a problem

wrote last edited by [email protected]I don't think there's a male equivalent to a "manic pixie dream girl".

wrote last edited by [email protected]Narcissistic Personality Disorder, potentially. At least, that's what mine has/had, without a doubt.

I think being romantically or sexually available is an important part of the trope: that's what takes the character from being an interesting and experienced mentor, to a weird and creepy fantasy for the writer.

MPDG is wish-fulfillment for the loser male protagonist. MPDG's are one-dimensional and quirky in just such a way to make the messy, aimless, socially inept male lead somehow attractive to them. The male is possibly on the spectrum (more likely just an asshole), the MPDG is void of real personality.
A male protagonist dating a MPDG is like him dating his imaginary friend.

You're probably using a more-technically-correct use of "mania" than the person who coined the term.

The "manic" in Manic Pixie Dream Girl is not a diagnosis, it means energetic. Just like "pixie" isn't implying she's fae or something.
although Bipolar Fairy Dream Girl kinda slaps, I think that's just Tinkerbell

They're both technically correct, manic means both mania and the energy associated with mania.

There is, and it's Thor from the MCU.
