    Summary

JD Vance criticized Denmark for failing to protect Greenland from Russian and Chinese incursions during a visit to the U.S. military base in Pituffik.

While pledging respect for Greenland's sovereignty, Vance announced increased U.S. naval presence without expanding ground forces.

Trump echoed the need for Greenland’s strategic importance to global security.

Greenland’s new prime minister condemned the visit as disrespectful, and public protests opposed U.S. influence. Trump’s administration continues to push for stronger U.S. involvement in the mineral-rich Arctic region.

They paid almost 3 percent and now are upping it TO 3 percent of their total gdp on defense. They are in line with it.

Vance and trump are so ego based and dumb af.

Looks like they updated the title: "Vance accuses Denmark of not keeping Greenland safe from Russia, China"

But really, journalists don't need to pretend any of this is legitimate. Add a "dubiously" in there. This is obviously not a sincere complaint. Stop assuming good faith just because he's got an official title.

In 2016, I would have agreed with you. I think now, journalists' personal safety might be at risk if they don't fall in line.

Plenty of other journalists posting anti Trump content without problem. If you're too scared to use words to mildly criticize power, you shouldn't be a journalist in the first place. They didn't become cowards due to Trump's new hyper fascism, they've been like that the whole time.

Russia can't even easily annex confining countries with lots of roads and rails, how they would even try to get to Greenland with all those NATO countries in the middle.

China would even need to circumnavigate the Americas to reach it

I feel there's another dictatorship that's more dangerous than those two

Kind of a moot point I guess. You're right, they were always cowards.

The US made agreement with Denmark to do this in 1951. Instead, the US has gone from 10000 personel to 200 and closed the majority of their bases. From 17 to 1 base.

This is Danish foreign minister on the subject after it being clear that JD Vance has no idea what he's talking about

In the middle? Have you ever seen a globe? They would go across the Arctic.

That's why there are American airbases and NATO radar stations up there.

I have to apologize. Venting is one thing, but I don't think I really have an excuse for that, so I'm going to leave it there and maybe I'll learn something. Having said that, the position this has put me in has been a nightmare to say the least. And I know I'm not the only one. The shit I've had to do in the last month alone to prepare for possible shtf is insane, and it's far from over. If it was just me alone, I'd be ok, but it's not. Just fuck. Sorry.

Denmark has not kept pace and devoted the resources necessary to keep this base, to keep our troops, and in my view, to keep the people of Greenland safe from a lot of very aggressive incursions from Russia, from China and other nations," Vance said. He gave no details of the alleged incursions.
The U.S. vice president said Russia, China and other nations are taking an "extraordinary interest" in Arctic passageways, naval routes and minerals in the region and the U.S. will invest more resources, including naval ships and military icebreakers that will have a greater presence in the country.

It sounds like there is one one group doing more aggressive incursions.

Wait, it's Denmarks responsibilty to keep american troops safe in their own bases? If you don't feel safe, then what about fucking off?

Considering that the "old" benchmark was 2%... They didn't even make that number for years. Only stepping up and consistently paying when Russia actually started their invasion. And even then they are rapidly regressing back to the 2% number.

It would be cool if you and your fellow citizens (millions of you, not just the handful who have been shouting into the wind so far) got together and did something to prevent that implosion.

It should also be embarrassing how few of you are actively fighting back against the collapse of your own country.

Those few hundred person protests? They should be millions. And they shoukd be constant.

That's the only way you'll reclaim your country from the fascists who are taking it over and destroying ~250 years of progress.

Considering that the "old" benchmark was 2%... They didn't even make that number for years. Only stepping up and consistently paying when Russia actually started their invasion. And even then they are rapidly regressing back to the 2% number.

I was wondering about the average so I came back, turns out it's over 2 percent.
