Brainstorming: how should we name a Lemmy community dedicated to the promotion of the Fediverse?
-
-
No, we want to keep [email protected] on its current instance with its current objective.
The question is about the other one, which is about promotion of the Fediverse rather than growth of communities already here
-
The issue is that they have very similar names while being different. I edited the post to make it more clear.
-
The new one would replace [email protected]
[email protected] would stay the same. I edited the OP to clarify
-
Having two communities seems better as people busy with keeping their communities active aren’t automatically interested in promoting the Fediverse externally, and vice versa.
Same reason there is [email protected] separated from [email protected] , the intent and type of content are different
-
this community here is thriving
Which one? [email protected] , [email protected] or [email protected] ?
-
I personally think lemmy users for the most part are technical enough to get that based on the descriptions you two may add. Those communities already have followers right?
I know [email protected] is not gonna censor me like [email protected] is though they “have the same name.”
-
I wouldn’t do fediverse support because it sounds too much like lemmy_support
-
I would say it's a different type of growth. A topic that regularly comes up is consolidation of similar communities (the most recent example being [email protected] as the suggested alternative to [email protected] [email protected] , [email protected] , [email protected] etc.)
So it's a type of growth, but more internal than external.
Having two communities seems better as people busy with keeping their communities active aren’t automatically interested in promoting the Fediverse externally, and vice versa.

I think fediverse_migration or fediverse_procelytizing is best
I personally don’t like “fedi”

Thank you for your feedback!

Does Lemmy have the equivalent of Reddit flair? That made some posts easier to avoid or focus on that others.
-
fedipromote
fediversepromotion if you feel the need for a lot more letters, but y tho?
-
Fedifriends
-
Tags are coming soon, which I think would be equivalent:
-
I mean, of the hundreds of communities I've blocked so far, I feel like a solid half of them were furry porn, so honestly that tracks.
-
FYI: there is already a Fediverse Marketing Community as part of https://fediforum.org/projects/. How about joining forces with the people who are already there instead of duplicating effort?
-
Yes but both in one community makes sense since people who advocate will care about the news and people who care about the news care enough to maybe advocate.
-
Honest question: what is the goal here? As a user, I don’t care much about the fediverse as a concept. As a Reddit refugee, I love Lemmy and that is worth promoting as far as I am concerned. I was never into twitter, and mastodon doesn’t appeal to me. But if people want to promote it, go for it. As a techie, the fediverse is an interesting concept, but not one you’re going to get the general public interested in.

I wasn't aware, thanks!
