I created a Lemmy instance and the future of this community.
-
The real dull men's club has existed for 40 years, they have branding and a website.
-
I guess my thought process is what if two large instances defederate for whatever reason. Will people create a second account just to post here? My hope is that the community moves over to the new instance.
-
We have 1500 members here, how many do you think will move in the first place?
-
Just so you know, dullsters was also coined by the person who started the club. He used it to refer to members. It was submitted to the Oxford English dictionary, but I don't think it got in.
And the archive link: https://archive.md/hwzsa
There's also been a bunch of rival Facebook groups for this, I wouldn't worry too much about this one also being called the dull men's club.
-
I'm not sure, it might be none,it might be more, we'll see i suppose.
-
So I owe you a mental apology. I was all like, "why are they bein' so salty?!" I mean, yeah, it's the same format as an email address, but you'd have to copy it, open your email, paste it in... WTF dude...
then I opened this thread in Voyager.
Point taken.
-
Oh, I wasn’t intending to sound salty. I was going for dull: Email is much more dull than the fediverse.
And, yeah, I’m using Voyager, which prompted me replying with the ! to begin with.
-
No worries, LOL. Strangers typing messages to each other will result in that.
-
I will make sure to attribute it to him, as well as being the inspiration for the community. My thought was that I'm not the owner of Dull Men's Club, I don't have permission to use the name. However, we are Dullsters here, the term isn't exclusive to Dull Men's Club. The term deserves widespread use as a new and novel word. The more it gets used the closer it gets to being an "official" word, which I think the creator of Dull Men's Club is proud of.
-
That's what I was thinking, too. Dull DIY, Dull gaming. Maybe one like Dull Work where you can share minor work wins nobody else you know would care about.
-
For name ideas:
prattle: idle or foolish and irrelevant talk
It evokes the spirit of doddering, dull, old fashioned men but without being specifically gendered or referring to any other brand.
Or,
Perhaps a little wrong and I've never seen the League of Extraordinary Gentleman so I don't even know if it's irrelevant or deeply inappropriate but it has a pleasant ring to it
Or,
Follows in the spirit of mildy... communities which is generic and not tied to any specific brand
-
I was thinking about dullards, although it doesn't actually mean someone who is dull.
-
The Dull Breakfast Club
-
as I’ve found quite a few of the posts pretty interesting.
As has been suggested by @[email protected] - you can have a mildlydull community for things that are just a bit too racey for some.
-
So just The Breakfast Club, got it
jk, I never saw that.
