But if you smoke, you don't notice other smokers smelling like shit, which is nice.

Tell me about it! I had to accept that part of quitting involved forever missing something, but knowing I'm better off without it.

That feeling will disappear eventually. I rarely even think about it even when I see smokers now. If I'm out drinking though that's a different story...

It is voluntary. Being a creep is a learned behavior and can be unlearned. I'll admit it's systemic but it's our(M/Society) responsibility to change that.

              Definitely

The sentence part after "but" is in direct conflict with thee first.

I dont think it is. You can avoid being shot on the street by not leaving your house. The blame lies with the shooter but you could avoid it if that was your goal.

This should have been a separate paragraph, it's a different idea even if in context. This still let's predators off the hook by assuming their motivations and behavior are "natural" or "innate" in a way that can't change.

Thats not what Im saying at all and I dont think my comment made it sound like that. Im 100% convinced that predators are at fault and should be the ones being punished. Maybe my comment was unclear, Im not a native speaker.

The one thing humans do well is learn. It's one of our few evolutionary advantages. The "limits of your freedom" don't have to include predatory behavior if you don't identify it as part to your autonomy or self.

Not sure what you mean exactly but I wasnt talking about predators' freedom.

Isn't that just the point again though? Expressing suicidal thoughts is literally reaching out for help while being fully aware of the risk. If we accept those who impose that risk then we stigmatize reaching out for help. If we tell women to dress differently to avoid the risk we tell them the creeps are valid.

Thats not what Im saying at all and I dont think my comment made it sound like that. Im 100% convinced that predators are at fault and should be the ones being punished. Maybe my comment was unclear, Im not a native speaker.

Yeah probably just a wording/text forum/secondary language thing. See below.

Not sure what you mean exactly but I wasnt talking about predators' freedom.

              Probably same confusion as above.

So the talking points you're making, at least in form and not intent, parallel arguments from evangelicals and other extreme right or fascist types. After talking I know you didn't intend anything close to those viewpoints. However, I don't feel it would have been appropriate to leave a statement unaddressed if there was a chance of interpretation in the malignant sense.

Might be that the only one that gets any fresh air into their office is the one closest to the smoker.

I think a box fan is like $20. Have one that blows air OUT of the window that's closest to the smoker... have a different box fan bringing fresh air IN from a different window.

Still waiting on eventually. Haven't smoked in over 10 years. Every now and then when I see them at the gas station I start craving them

I agree. There is a difference between being a smoker and being an inconsiderate dick.

I won't lie though, judging from how much of the litter where I live is cigarettes butts and packs, there seems to be a rather large overlap.

Add people who drink Tim Horton's coffee and that's a solid 80% of the litter I see.

(Am smoker, will carry smelly butts rather than throw them on the street)

Still increases your electricity bill. Why can't the smoker just have the common decency to not smoke next to an open window? I know I never do, it's just rude.

Hey... I 100% agree with you there. The smoker is certainly an ass-hat, but in this life we can only control our own actions; not the actions of others.

Many people that smoke are already mentally unbalanced. Making them a shamed pariah is doing little for their mental health, it is just forcing them to hide yet another bit of their unhappiness.

Not smoking is healthier, no doubt, but the majority of people that still do it undoubtedly have enough shame going on. Self hate comes into play, as well.

Man if only that was true. A neighbor across the street is a chain smoker, and I hear him hack up a lung every morning for a couple of hours.

Yeah smoking will make you live shorter, but it'll also reaaaally fuckin' ruin your life leading up to that.

Question: did memes like this help?

Asking because I do street cleaning work in my neighborhood. And assholes keep throwing cigarette butts right on the ground.

I'd love to find a solution to have them quit smoking, which will lead to less cigarette butts.

No. Having others say something you already know as a addict of a substance doesn't help at all. We know we should stop. We all know that. The challenge of an addict is being willing to stop, and then being successful at stopping. Then abstinence.

When I was a smoker, I watch my grandmother die from smoking related lung cancer right in front of my face, it didn't change a thing. I'd go outside of the hospital and smoke all the same. I had to want to quit.
