That's a brutal and very cynical view on saving lives.
And maybe some of these people get a little bit wiser. So I'm not at all sure it stands up.

Hmm. Seems like the blessing might be bullshit.

          Was just being facetious.

Lest you forget, Germany still subsidises homeopathy through the health insurance scheme, which ends up costing twice...

I'm not sure how the 2 relate. But IMO homeopathy shouldn't even be legal, because it's fraud.
It doesn't matter that some people may believe it, the evidence is clear that it doesn't work beyond the placebo effect. It should be illegal on the same principles that make pyramid schemes illegal, pyramid schemes also do work for some.

I get the feeling that people who would drink holy water are not the ones listening to professionals.

Theyre the ones buying snake oil instead of going to a doctor.

Since a lot of people are fine with placebos to feel better (studies support it), I support this over prescribing medicine all the time.

I refuse to pay for placebo when it costs more than actual medicine.

Yours is an absolutely asinine take.

And as a final note, there is no evidence homeopathy has a positive effect globally in the German population that is non inferior to not having it at all.

And as an important tool for those thinking the placebo effect is at all relevant, please keep in mind the design of the study you read and the disclosures (or lack thereof) at the end of said study. We're still reeling from the sugar industry effects on research into nutrition.

They would get some unregulated stuff online then, and then it gets really expensive. Or shop for doctors until they get something.

I remember naming one of my Oregon Trail characters "God". The words "God has cholera" still make me laugh, and this just reminded me.

The article is f**ing scary... 😮

Testing indicated that the cholera strain that the travelers brought home was a particularly nasty one. V. cholerae O1, which is linked to other recent outbreaks in Eastern and Middle Africa, is resistant to a wide variety of antibiotics, namely: fluroquinolones, trimethoprim, chloramphenicol, aminoglycosides, beta-lactams, macrolides, and sulphonamides. The strain also carried a separate genetic element (a plasmid) that provided resistance mechanisms against streptomycin and spectinomycin, cephalosporins, macrolides, and sulphonamides.

Maybe they should have used some of that very profane UV light on their holy water, to make it safe, not just holy.
