You said servicing the central AC will certainly be cheaper in the long run. That's wrong. It might be, but it depends on a lot of other factors. You seem to be biased against window ACs for some reason, and seem hell bent on misinforming people about them. Decent modern window ACs will have a higher baseline efficiency than older full house units, and cool just the room you want. Conduction losses through the wall are minimal compared to trying to to cool literally 10x as much space. They are incredibly easy to DIY, and cost $500 up front, but you'll get half that back when you sell it when you're done with it. Literally the same price as the AC tech who's gonna come out and say that you need to install more return ducts, insulation, or another unit to keep up with the increased average outdoor temperature. Like literally everything else, some are built cheaply, some are built well. Look up reviews before you buy.

Not sure if it's weird, but I have to check the menu before I go anywhere. I just like knowing what I'm getting into. For Panera, this site saved me the hassle, all the prices and items laid out clearly.

Do not mix those drugs. They have a high risk of stopping your ability to breathe. Alcohol does not mix with drugs that act on GABA.

Voyager on Android. I subscribe to as much as I could find that I was interested in. These show in "Home" feed. I look through the "All" feed to see whats going on & subscribe to anything relevant, then switch back to "Home" for my individual feed. Amirite?

I have zero gripes with my mother tongue borrowing English words for new concepts. It might be the best thing it can do, second only to dying. But every one in ten words it borrows the wrong form. "*What's that board? That's a surfing. How do I call the one riding it? Why, a surfinger, of course. *" "My sister sent me another reels-- pluralize what, reelss? Of course it's reelss, you weirdo." Makes me wanna scrape my eyes and ears out.

I'd say it depends heavily on the vehicle. 2 people and all their belongings in a Golf is pretty dire. But if you're 1 person in a proper Van set-up it can be pretty good depending on your location.

Only if you have stored files locally and select “also delete local data” when deleting the app. You can check this in the Files app or by connecting the device to a computer and browsing the books storage section. Anything backed by icloud storage (and of course anything purchased from the store) can be redownloaded later. As a compromise, you can “offload” the app until you’re ready to use it again from the apps section of settings. This has the side effect of retaining existing data while uninstalling the app itself.

I grew up in Asia and had a chipped playstation 1 as a kid. It allowed it to read copies, was pretty standard stuff over there the copies could be found in legit stores and everything. Anyway it started struggling to read the CDs. We figured out if we turned it upside down, it would be able to read them no problem. I suspect it was gravity making the lens come a bit closer to the CDs but don't know for sure. It was certainly funny having it upside down, worked a charm.

Damn, I thought we were going philosophical but nevermind that then. I agree sometimes complex numbers are thought of as weird which they certainly shouldn't be. 2D numbers are not a great name though coz (x,y) rather than (x,iy) is what comes to mind. Maybe we should just stop using imaginary. Complex or quaternions are enough.

Wood ones get picked clean consistently or set off with no kill. Victor ones require no skill. It's like clockwork, set them and they're dead immediately.

I would donate to support lemmy.today, as I'm using an instance and it has costs, but the admin has said that he's currently not interested in donations. I believe I donated to Ernest's coffee fund back when I was using kbin.social. Can't recall how much, though. Was a while ago.

Yeah, dB is a measure of difference, not an absolute value. Every increase of 10dB represents twice as much volume, but that means 0dB is essentially just a reference point. Going from 0 to 10dB means you have doubled the volume. 20 is twice of 10, 30 is twice of 20, etc… But what is twice of 0? If 0 were an absolute value, the entire scale would break down because 0x2 is still 0. People have a really hard time wrapping their minds around the logarithmic growth of the dB scale… For reference, a rock concert can easily hit 120dB, but the loudest sound that earth’s atmosphere can support is ~194dB. Because sound is a pressure wave with a compression and expansion. After 194dB, the atmospheric pressure isn’t enough to fully expand into the void after the compression. Once you get above that ~194dB threshold, it stops being a sound wave with a distinct push-pull, and becomes a solid shockwave that is all push. Above 194dB, it’s essentially an explosive wave. And to briefly touch on what you mentioned about perception, there’s also the fact that different frequencies require different amounts of power to produce the same volume. Lower bass frequencies require more power to produce the same volume, because the bass waves are physically larger and require more motion from the speakers to produce. If you want a demonstration, go look up the difference between white noise and pink noise. White noise has the same amount of power throughout the entire audio spectrum, but it tends to sound relatively high pitched and tinny. This is because those lower frequencies are quieter. In comparison, pink noise has a curved power distribution, mapped to how much power it takes to produce the same volume. This means it sounds much more “full”, as the low end is actually balanced with the highs. But listening to pink noise will be wildly different on a phone speaker vs a car stereo, because the phone speaker physically isn’t large enough to truly produce those low notes.

It also provides all the knowledge of humanity for those who are willing to take it. Some chose to only watch brain rot, so they only see brain rot. And their rants don't provide even snark, they suck the life out of conversation with their misguided misanthropy

This just recently happened. Last year, we had a smoke detector with a 10-year built-in battery that was giving false positives. The manufacturer replaced it under warranty, but because I still needed to dispose of it properly, I just put it in the basement until I had time to get rid of it. Since that time, it had not beeped once. Two weeks ago, it started beeping, but only a few seconds and maybe once a day. Annoying, but whatever, it was going to be thrown out anyway. But then it did it more often, until finally, it was going nuts one morning last week, and I had to permanently disable it. As it turns out, that evening, a house on our block went up in flames. A total loss. None of the other smoke detectors, CO2 detectors, CO detectors, or even air quality meters picked up on anything that day. Coincidence? Perhaps. I can't explain it at all. On that page, click "Real Bombchu" under Majora's Mask. That's the enemy being discussed. The blue and yellow one is an item. Real Bombchu appear around the canyon entrance in Termina Field during the day.

And just like that, we find all the pro capitalists. Go beyond healthcare to another basic need, and it gets defended. No wonder we can't push it the other way. We'd love to seize the means, but there has to be a path.
