This just recently happened. Last year, we had a smoke detector with a 10-year built-in battery that was giving false positives. The manufacturer replaced it under warranty, but because I still needed to dispose of it properly, I just put it in the basement until I had time to get rid of it. Since that time, it had not beeped once. Two weeks ago, it started beeping, but only a few seconds and maybe once a day. Annoying, but whatever, it was going to be thrown out anyway. But then it did it more often, until finally, it was going nuts one morning last week, and I had to permanently disable it. As it turns out, that evening, a house on our block went up in flames. A total loss. None of the other smoke detectors, CO2 detectors, CO detectors, or even air quality meters picked up on anything that day. Coincidence? Perhaps. I can't explain it at all. On that page, click "Real Bombchu" under Majora's Mask. That's the enemy being discussed. The blue and yellow one is an item. Real Bombchu appear around the canyon entrance in Termina Field during the day.

And just like that, we find all the pro capitalists. Go beyond healthcare to another basic need, and it gets defended. No wonder we can't push it the other way. We'd love to seize the means, but there has to be a path.

I have a Harris tweed Teapot Cozy. It is one of my favorite things in my kitchen. I should have thought of that.

The office manager of the hvac repair company we use, came over Wednesday morning before work to loan us a window unit so we could stay cool while we waited for a part to come in for our central air. She's an angel.

I think in Germany, 'sozialliberal' usually refers to being liberal in general, except for being pro social regulations / markets. So I guess it means everything and nothing

Make the world a better place. Hiring some hitmen to do some stuff on curtain people in power of companies and states.

The beach where I used to live had quicksand and people had to be rescued from it at least once a week, usually more. So it was a pretty big concern, actually, and I had to make sure my kid and his friends didn't end up in it (they did, several times).

As you say, as everything is in the eye of the beholder. Some of the most successful artists are those who understand what their target audience want, and know where it overlaps with what they want to create, maximising passion and enjoyment on both sides. As for AI art, you're absolutely right, and it's acceptance is also wholly to the observer. Cheap low effort stuff is going to be called slop, but where it's part of a broader process that enhances the prompter's work it will be considered successful. Of course if something is culturally taboo (and AI art is risking this) art on the topic will be buried under down votes.

I wish for you to find love for yourself and acceptance with those that will appreciate you for who you are. 🫂 The impact of trauma can be hard to reverse but not impossible. But the good news is that even an old beat up RV can be repaired, restored, used towards building/buying a new one.

Society can do nothing but evolve. The world has changed and society has changed with the aspects best able to continue in the modern world being those thar continued. Is society better off or not is a good question.

It's an interesting thought experiment to look at sports fans getting overly excited by people chasing a ball bouncing around like an anthropologist studying group behaviour in primates. I can't see them as anything other than gibbering apes after doing that.

I would expect that judges have a fine moral compass for which crimes are worse than others. Better if they don't need to follow some administration's counterscientific "tough on crime" whim You make a compelling case for maximums though. I hadn't thought of it as being a way to reduce torture or death penalty in the countries where that's on the table in the first place

Originally, The Great Elf Smith Feanor Created three gems (the Silmarils) that captured the light of the trees, Gold, Silver and combined gold and silver light, they were blessed and holy. They were Stolen by Melkor/Morgoth, w the help of Ungoliant, the Mother of Shelob. The Brothers of Feanor Spread out, and they Vowed to get the Silmarils Back, The Palantir were then created by Feanor so the brothers could coordinate w each other over distance. In LOTR, We see that Sauruman has one, and Sauron (Servant of Morgoth) Has one. - His power and influence worked through it, he could see the minds and the intentions of those who looked into it. Originally they were just for the Brothers to communicate. The Silmarillion is my favorite book, really worth reading, IMHO better than all the LOTR + Hobbit, Its the total Backstoiry/Prequel to LOTR and Tolkien Died before it was truly finished, His son Published it, and it's brilliant.

How much energy is it worth wasting on stupid shit for our entertainment? U don't need lights it would be far more efficient if u used a headtorch. Is the energy usage of ur TV worth the entertainment u get from it?
