Shooting actually straight up is very safe, at least for people on the ground. The terminal velocity of a bullet is fast enough to make you say "ouch", but not much else. Problems can arise if you're shooting up-ish, but shooting straight up means the bullet has zero velocity relative to its origin at the apex, so the only speed it has from that point forward is imported by gravity and wind, pretty much. Amazing guy. I always love those people who are honest when there is nothing to gain but self respect. Most people dont say anything because they are afraid, and they know its not smart for their careers. But thats exactly why I like those people who are honest so much. I don't like the idea of the word fat-shaming. Of course I don't condone bullying but being so hyper protective about someone being fat just is peculiar to me. When I was fat myself, due to the teasing of my friends (again not bullying) I put in the work and got fit therefore now I'm more healthy.
