If you play XV for the love of god get the story DLC with it. I rawdogged it and played XV as my first ever FF game with my diehard FF fan mom watching me and we both were like "what is this dogshit and what is happening" It was disappointing for me as a newcomer. Apparently my friend fucking loves this story though and said FF XV villain is amazing, so the additional context DLC must really save it. Anyway I hope to get around to doing VII - XIII (skipping XII) to experience a proper FF game without the need for DLC...
