Mullvad's ads are good

Mullvad is great, only VPN i'll ever use. I'm just a random number to them. no emails, no names, nothing. Hell I can even just pay them in cash if I wanted. Their service has improved too. on some wifi networks it would take me a couple minutes to connect but now it's instant. Soon as I boot into my WM just "mullvad connect" in the terminal and I'm good to go.
Honestly that sounds great. I'm kind of annoyed how often NordVPN keeps emailing me and trying to upsell me on the daily.
The service is fine overall. But the nonstop promotion, along with it being a US company that can easily just give all their info to the US government, makes me wanting to switch pronto.

That's how classic Reddit was for me.
Mods who are extremely rigid to the rules had to exist when the spammers went crazy. But with smaller communities, modding should be based on vibes. You get better conversations that way.

We've been getting ads from them in Seattle too
It's reached a point where the government is pushing for websites to card you before you can enter.
Women apps were giving data so the government can arrest women for abortion-like behavior.
We're already at the point where privacy/anonymity is the only way to visit the internet.

Proton i believe has a selection of locations that support port forwarding.

For other ports, you can use AirVPN. For 80 and 443, rent a cheap vps and use it as a reverse proxy, then point it to your actually open ports. Or just host on the cheap vps.
Yes, that's what I do, but then my address isn't mixed with hundreds of other users, I wish I could have a web service, with a dynanic dns domain name and letsencrypt certificates but the anonymous front that a vpn provides.

Nah, the reason ads are bad is because they poison your mind down to the unconscious parts. It doesn't matter if the company behind it is moral or not, it's still memetic pollution.
Edit: For the record I don't have a huge issue with this post being here, but I wanted to chip in with my opinion that ads are bad even if you separate them from the product they're advertising.
How would anyone be informed of something existing without telling people the product exists

They were on Boston's T stations as well a couple months ago. Maybe they target cities specifically, I haven't seen any outside tech industry centers.
Saw some in London last month.

Hosting a website over a VPN is not a great idea anyways. You should use something like Cloudflares proxied domains or tunnels. Your users will get far better performance and you'll see significantly less load on your network.

I moved to AriVpn As Mullvad stopped supporting port forwarding. I can recommend Air.

For me, Mullvad isn't an option because they don't have port forwarding anymore.

I don't think NordVPN is American. They just market heavily via American YouTubers. It has Lithuanian roots and is incorporated in The Netherlands according to Wikipedia.

I disagree, we need more transparency about finances of companies in the world. If a sponsor can pay somebody like LinusTechTips 40k a video to promote their video, than that means we as a consumer are overpaying for the product.
In a lot of European countries you can just see an annual report of a company which you can use to say filter out dropshippers since they generally spend a lot on ads and marketing.
We aren't going to be able to stop ads on the web unless we start paying subscriptions for everything and that is a good way to get a lot of people into financial trouble.
I also wish we could more easily go back to simple websites with no tracking and barely any ads.Nah I meant the opposite. Journalistic integrity was learned through long, hard history.
Now that traditional journalism is dying, its like the streamer generation has to learn it from scratch, heh.

I pay for mine with vouchers, just as convenient as a credit card as long as you renew ahead of time, and just as anonymous as cash.
Wish I could buy them somewhere other than amazon though.
