Well I didn't lose it, it just got FUBARed by something big. Either landed on it or tried to take it away. All peppers gone too, right when they were starting to turn red 😞

No, plenty of main dishes are spicy/sweet.

There also desserts and sweets that are spicy/sweet. There are some snacks that are essentially sweetened spicy fish...

Oh, the schedule is great. We get beds and sleep when not running calls. Have a kitchen to cook in and a living room type area with recliners. We train and stay busy till 5pm. After that we mainly just chill out and do what we want when we aren't running a call. Usually get woke up once a night on average. Usually a medical call or a lift assist for an old person who's fallen and can't get up at night. But every time I get off work I'm on "a four day weekend". It's awesome.

          That does sound fun, honestly.

I'd been able to do things like that a decade ago, long term camping trips, multi day paintball excursions...

Unfortunately, later on, I ended up getting assaulted and crippled, so now my life is mostly full time PT, interspersed with shitposting on lemmy, lol.

So yeah... I very fundamentally would not be able to keep up with that anymore, but it does still sound appealing, and honestly just gives me more determination to dedicate toward my PT... progress is slow, and painful, but the progress is also real.

Was in a wheelchair a year+ ago. Got to being able to use a cane and braces. Now I'm at the point where I can actually ditch either the cane or the braces for a decent amount of time.

Gotta just keep keeping with it.

Trouble bubble is another one of those BS lies. Pure capsaicin is 16 million scoville. The gum uses a tiny amount of it in the gum. It's the smallest added ingredient in the gum. Diluted from the gum it's nowhere near 16 million scoville anymore. They still left it extremely hot, but nowhere near 16 million. I'm surprised it made you vomit since you don't swallow much of the heat juice. Make your lips hurt though from blowing that bubble.

I'm not sure how the Scoville system measures it exactly since of course no pepper or anything else is going to be pure capsaicin. Is it based on the number of milligrams of capsaicin within a serving or what? Certainly a tiny sliver of Carolina Reaper is different than eating the whole thing but it's considered a 2.2M pepper regardless.

In any event I've eaten straight reapers and done the 2022 One Chip challenge - the blue tongue one - without issue. The Lil Nitro gummy is way, way hotter than a reaper or the One Chip challenge, and the Trouble Bubble seemed about the same as the Lil Nitro gummy and its the only thing I've ever eaten that got a reaction out of me so I wouldn't call it BS. Can your taste buds really distinguish between an unnatural 9M or 16M scoville anyway? The gum is devious in that you have to chew it a long time to get the sugar out of it and make it pliable enough to blow a bubble. You make and swallow a lot of saliva filled with lava during that time. I'm sure that's what made me puke. Whatever it's rating should be - if the 16M is inaccurate - there's nothing mild about it. I can guarantee you eat it and you won't call it BS. 😄

Scoville is measured by blending or breaking down what the capsaicin is in and analyzing what percentage of that is made of capsaicin. Pure capsaicin is 16,000,000 scoville. Half capsaicin is 8,000,000 scoville, and so on. Since the gum has like 8 ingredients in it and the ingredients are legally required to be listed in order of amount the food contains, and the pepper extract is listed as the 8th ingredient, the absolute highest scoville the gum could have is 2,000,000 and that's only if all 8 ingredients were in equal amounts, which is pretty much a zero chance. In all likelihood the gum is between 300,000 and 800,000 if I were to make agood guess of it.

They must be kind of inconsistent with the chips and the nitro gummy bear, because when I did the nitro gummy it was a lot less hot than when I did the chip.

                  I appreciate the encouragement, genuienly.

                  Its... been wild.

Kind of just ended up actually living through the uh Fight Club line: "It is only after you have lost everything, that you are free to do anything."

Was quite a bit of a perspective shift... and I'd previously been working with serving the homeless at a shelter (ironic), but nope, even that was nowhere near sufficient to fully understand what its like.

But yeah, it did net result in me finally defeating my impostor syndrome... I actually have genuine self confidence now.

I have literally survived things that ... I literally saw kill other people, directly in front of me.

Made my way for a good bit of it by basically being the only person around that had basic, functional first aid training, and I more or less traded that for food, cigs, 'reputation points'.

More or less dumb fucking luck that I remembered some trauma oriented medical training I got at gun range years back, and that I was able to hold onto a good more or less medical bugout bag I'd put together in case of emergencies.

Local firefighters were a lot more helpful and trustworthy than local cops, in terms of actually helping out with dire medical situations...

So I am a bit pleasantly biased towards firefighters in that way too, haha.

Anyway yeah, one of these days, I'll get to go on a hike again, and that'll honestly be me being a happy and fully content man.

For sure on Da Bomb. I'm from Kansas City near where it's made and have been using it since 1999. It tastes bad on its own but works great to make other things hot. I keep it around (ground zero) to ad to other hot sauce and salsa and ketchup bottles and Sriracha and BBQ sauce I buy and to ad to soups and chili to make them spicy. It's great for adding heat to stuff that tastes good. Dave's is just tasty and goes right on sandwiches and stuff.

Yes, indeed. I find it too metallic tasting. No idea what it could be. I've bought it twice now, but I think I'm just going to stick with Dave's Ultimate Insanity and Mad Dog 357 (oh you simply must try them).

Your explanation doesn't seem to match Wikipedia or what Google's AI summary says on how Scoville's are calculated. It's essentially a parts per million capsaicin x a scale.

In any event I can say the 2022 One Chip challenge and eating a dried Carolina Reaper seems about the same to me. Only did the chip once but I've done reapers a couple times and they're certainly hot, but I've never struggled with anything hot. Doesn't bother me in the restroom either like so many others... not sure why. The one time I did the gummy.... way hotter than a pepper or the One Chip. Not even close. Wouldn't recommend to anyone that found the chip or a straight pepper an issue. And the gum? Like I said it's devious in how much capsaicin you're forced to swallow while trying to get to the place to blow a bubble. About 5 minutes after completing the challenge my stomach started to feel like there was a balloon inside it. Told my wife I'm either gonna have a monster burp or I'm gonna puke and then the evacuation started. I'd do it again probably if I had someone doing it with me just to be entertained by their reaction, and to see if my stomach would respond the same way again. Wouldn't recommend to anyone that hasnt challenged themselves at extreme levels already though. The one I ate was no joke.

I never thought I'd see El Pato ever referenced online. It's my go-to. Dirt cheap and I can eat it by the can on tacos or burritos. Mix it with cheese for a really good dip for chips.

While I understood what you meant, it wasn't that clear in a broader perspective. English eh? So easy to misunderstand each other

You didn't clearly define desserts/candy in your first comment.

While I understood what you meant, it wasn't that clear in a broader perspective. English eh? So easy to misunderstand each other

Yeah the main comment is not as clear but the first reply to absGeekNZ is clear enough I think.

Chocolate isn't sweet, it's bitter. You have to add a lot of sugar to get the sweet chocolate we're familiar with. The Mayan and Aztec versions of hot chocolate were more like a spicy coffee than the sweet drink we have now.

There's a coffee roaster near me, Republica Coffee Roasters, that has an Aztec hot chocolate/mocha on the menu. And is a spicy version of those. It's not my favourite coffee place, but I really like the spicyness if those drinks... Damn think I might go get one now that I'm thinking about it and it's raining today

I'll occasionally make up coffee in the morning with chocolate, cinnamon, and a few shakes of cayenne pepper. Coffee shop I went to once did the same thing, called it an Aztec Mocha. Very good.
