It's not like we're going to learn anything useful about leftism from the USA. They've done nothing but ratchet their country rightward for decades.
underpants weevil has the context for the word wrong and playing to that doesn't prove your point the way you think it does. woke, as a term, belongs to the Black community, one of the, on the whole, most left leaning demographics out there. the term comes from a group that has been saying for 300 years that oppression anywhere represents oppression everywhere. it's a anti-colonial, non-national term. people fighting oppression are woke. people fighting on behalf of oppressors are not woke. don't use a nation's government as proof there's no leftist thought going on there, that's some ignorant divisive thinking that will prevent you from building the kinds of coalition you need to fight oppression. it seems like all of this comes down to that you've accepted the conservative rebranding of woke rather than taking the time to understand what it really means and help us reconnotate in order to resist this fascist takeover of language. the powers that be have the power to redenotate words and create newspeak, but we have the power of connotation. don't give them what they want like what you're doing

The point isn't to take sides with the sheep, it's about self-awareness. Recognizing that hating ignorant people is just a different form of ignorance. We're all burdened by or own ignorance even if we don't know it.
I don't hate them for their ignorance. I would actually stop short of saying I hate them at all. But the deep disdain I feel for them is for the hellscape they have dragged all of us into, and which will take decades to fix, if we fix it at all.
So yeah, I'm probably burdened by being ignorant of how that makes me just as bad as they are.
Considering I'll die of old age still being harmed by what they have empowered and are currently cheering for, and will also die knowing my kids' lives and the lives of everyone I care about will be worse because of it, I'm ok with that.

(for instance, I suspect many are eager to move on from "mansplain." And let's not forget people bullying Lindsay Ellis for comparing Raya and the Last Dragon to Avatar; that was fucked up.)
If we can deftly arrange for "woke" to redirect to that kind of peripheral stuff, and extract the important stuff -- protections for minorities, diversity and inclusion, etc. -- under some new label, then yeah I'm content to leave "woke" in the past.

Would you accept a 'pro-lifer' telling you you're "anti-life" if you oppose their view? That's the kind of rhetorical maneuver you're employing in your comment.
My point is, the self-labeled descriptor is not important, and all sides will obviously use a descriptor that sounds good and makes them sound favorable to describe themselves, so focusing on it is pointless, and just comes off as arrogance. Focus instead on the actual things that "woke" representsāit hits much harder imo to read something like, for example, "it's crazy people say they're against healthcare being a human right and think that's like a good thing lol", than what I quoted above.
