@[email protected] said in NodeBB v4.0.0 — Federate good times, come on!: @[email protected] careful with that though, not all tags are the same, some have a higher signal-to-noise ratio, but others would just be filled with garbage I think the best way, then, would be to have rules that map various group actor URLs to categories, and possibly also tags. Nothing automatic. Only configured. Of course, once Lemmy fixes the ability of Group actors to follow other Group actors, this will be a non-issue. One other possible solution, which is employed by Misskey et al., is a proxy actor. It's a special user that follows other users, and relays info within its own instance. It's used for doing things like adding a remote user to a list without directly following them. The proxy account follows the user, and then your local instance adds the remote user to your list. But all ActivityPub interactions go through the proxy user.

@julian Yes, I still have to study this, but it really looks intentionally overcomplicated and confusing. It is now being forced by European funds, but I am extremely skeptical about this implementation. Much more friendly technologies have sunk into oblivion because they did not solve the problems of the mass audience and were not understood by them. Here, so many problems are created and it is unclear what problem is being solved at all. For example, discovery of new content or new platforms is impossible. I already need to have my own active communities or have many friendly platforms to get at least some distribution outside my forum. But if I already have friendly communities, then this technology is not so important to me because we can exchange links manually.

The pool is a mirrored pair of 14TB drives. Pool is 56% full. SMART tests all pass, but the last scrub took over a week which was odd.

@[email protected] said in Is ActivityPub too complicated?: > Mainly wanted to sync remote group actors to a category for organizational purposes. Yeah that's a great use case, and definitely what it ought to be used for. Let me look into nodebb-to-nodebb folllowing, that definitely should be working!

@[email protected] yes, Lemmy has a local representation of this category, and sends the post here. I see that it's addressed to the category and automatically slot it in
