FFmpeg doesn't deserve to be such a tiny block. Nothing else comes close to matching its stability and simplicity. There's a reason it's practically part of the foundation for all media software out there.
But ffmpeg is a small binary (compared to the others there) and still performs well

wrote on last edited by [email protected]Well eh, the binary seems to be about 130MB while the ffmpeg source repository is only 80MB (and the version with separate .so files (all part of the project as far as I can see) is even larger)

Wouldn't be surprised if YouTube and Netflix don't use FFmpeg. I am pretty sure they use custom built hardware encoders. Pretty sure Netflix has a lot of blog posts about building their own encoding methods

They either do use it or a heavily modified fork to fit their usecase.
But I am pretty certain I read about their usage on it.
