    TIL I learned that 0 °F is the temperature of a freezer (it's -18 in Celsius). I wonder if there's a scientific reason for it to be -18 or if it's just arbitrary so it's 0 in Fahrenheit.

    Valid to not care! I have fun with my nails, I don't see them as expected/socially required maintenance. In my field it's actually seen as less professional to have long nails, especially in noticable polish. I get excited when I get to work from home for a week because that means I can go crazy with nails and makeup.

    Yes I think i tended towards the latter view because I just don't see much real world action or organising going on here. But some of the stuff posted does seem a bit sus - it's almost a caricature. Even quite radical people usually have some ability to reason or engage in moderate discussion. I guess it doesn't cost law enforcement much to keep an eye on this, and I'm sure lots of the terms used will flag in their webcrawlers and such. A few spooks and a few bots can probably do quite a lot across a lot of different social media so really not hard for them to have some presence here for minimal effort.

    Yeah, that scans for me. It breaks up "getting ready...for a night out", but I think it works. I think honestly it's just a reality that, if brevity is the soul of wit, then a punchy sentence needs to be compact and that means you need to get a bit funky with the grammar, so maybe the audience has to do a little work. Maybe also "at which" is fine too, and I was just overthinking it. One thing I won't bend on is that "to be starting to get ready" is objectively worse in every respect and is the main thing that throws people about the sentence.

    I mean, gay people are also a part of society. As are asexual people. If you mean society would collapse if there weren’t straight people to have kids, then you’re neglecting IVF. At one point that was true, but modern reproductive medicine has removed society’s dependence on the straights.

    I bet a lot of politicians have to lie to themselves to believe that if they got tossed into a time machine and forced to explain life choices to their 13 year old selves, the kid wouldn't just kick them or call them a fucking nerd. Now he can just show this screenshot.
