Linux

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word “Linux” in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

I would recommend the Feishin desktop player if using navidrome. It's a solid player in my experience, and has a smart playlist creator UI which the navidrome webui does not include.

Weird thing to downvote, this is how I tested Linux since if I broke something or wanted to try a different distro I just deleted the VM and tried another. It's way more annoying to distrohop once you've installed a system to your machine that also has all your files and configs set up.

It is the default atime option used when mounting if I'm correct. If it's an ubuntu specific mount option it will be specified in /etc/fstab file.

You're getting another X11 session instead of the console session. IIRC, you can set up X11vnc on the system and connect it to the :0 display, then direct xrdp to use x11vnc as the backend. Then when you connect, it grabs that vnc session and translates it to rdp protocol. I'm not sure if that's still viable.

For starting out I would suggest Longhorn, I've had several issues with it but maybe they've been fixed. I also used Rook Ceph which is overkill but neat to play with.

Nextcloud seems like the first set of office tools that has a chance to actually compete with the entirety of Ms office. They still have a long ways to go, but it's a hell of a lot better than just stock libreoffice

it would be important for fixing bugs, I guess? I think this is where the sandbox~y nature of Flatpak comes in. It doesn't really care for the distro-environment, because it creates its own distro-agnostic one; ensuring that software continues to work regardless of the shit-show going on elsewhere. It is for this and other reasons that some developers vouch for Flatpak.

Yeah, it seems counterproductive to ditch FOSS in the name of self-sufficiency. If it were about that, assembling an army of software people to learn and contribute to important FOSS codebases would be much more productive in my opinion. It feels like Harmony Next is about something else. Perhaps some wholesale insurance. Or someone's plans grandeur.

Since my question, Gentoo has changed in a favourable way. Guess what, I did not have the time to switch somewhere else. Enabling the binary repository for my existing Gentoo install was easy. Once again I have zero complaints and I can stay on Gentoo. Updates don't take ages anymore.

I didn’t think you made stuff up. I thought you were making an interesting point at first (why I asked for more detail), but then you rambled on vaguely and didn’t answer my question at all. I’ll go look into ARM somewhere else.

Thank you for the tip, I'll check it out, if the Pi runs unstable again. Just surprised, it sounds that it happened often to you... Since I upgraded to better sd-cards, I never had sd-card trouble again for nearly a decade now. (And I am constantly running multiple Pis 24/7 as servers)

Yes, I'll look into how hardened that unsafe browser is, because that would be an ideal solution for me. Thank you very much.
