Linux

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word “Linux” in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Fennec, Iceraven, and Cromite are more or less the top 3 browsers that I would recommend to anyone who is concerned with security and privacy. All 3 are open source and free of ads and trackers. Fennec and Iceraven are Mozilla based and have the ability to install basically all available Firefox addons, both mobile and desktop, though many desktop based addons will have compatibility issues that often break the ability that they'll work either at all or only partially, but generally I would say that the majority of Firefox's most popular addons typically work with issue, much more so than what does or is even available for the original Firefox for android browser. Cromite is a fork of Chromium, which is the open source version of Google Chrome. Its webview based so feels very similar to Chrome. Cromite has many unique features with its primary focus on browser privacy and security in mind.

Not him, but it makes sense to avoid the kinds of people that only have "experience in theory." Essentially, those who think they know something because they did something else.

DSC is designed to be visually lossless not mathematically lossless - you could say the same about JPEG. There are many reports about text being rendered badly with DSC.

but, he doesn't like it, so it's a scam. it's not enough just to not buy it, he has to bitch about it and save the world from this evil, malignant company selling extremely customizable Linux laptops with versatile expansion options.

I've run into this before. It's poorly documented but it usually means that you don't have the environment variable XDG_RUNTIME_DIR set in your shell. I fixed it by adding this to my ~/.bashrc file and making sure it gets loaded every time I fire one up: export XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=/run/user/$UID Also, try running that command right before running systemctl --user...

Honestly, I could do and have done Unreal, Unity and (easily) Godot development on less! But that's the minimum to spend for a very comfortable experience, I'd say; RX7900 and GTX 4090 are only there for bragging, while an on-board GPU would not be comfortable running game graphics in my opinion but I've seen people do it and not complain :/

Don't post the same exact thing in a dozen similar subs. It crowds people's feeds and gets you reported. Crosspost as intended.

Just installed it here. Setup process was not as smooth as I had hoped but nothing beyond what I'm already capable of fixing on my own. Ended up nuking windows with it (with no backups) as it didn't have an option to keep it without manually setting up every partition. Hope I won't miss it.

I understand it completely. However, my point of view is that, even in the case of the Amazon searches, it was easily disableable. I prefer Ubuntu flavors over base Ubuntu, which are run by the community and only do the bare minimum for Canonical to approve them as flavors (like add firefox as a snap). All of that bare minimum work can be easily undone in my opinion. Though, I understand avoiding Canonical when possible.

Not like you need another utility to do this, but I highly recommend you checkout fd. It's badass; fd -e jpg -e png -e webp -x chmod newuser:newuser
