I mean, just from looking at History, we should've expected that the Dystopia we would get was one were things are shit for most people but we're constantly fed fables that "actually it's all good", "for you it's going to be fine (trust me)" or that "it's all the fault of the poor and foreigners" (or all three, in sequence, as things get more undeniably bad). That said, at least looking back at teenage me, I don't think that at that age one is worldly or wise enough (and many people never are) to figure out that the most likely way for us to be screwed would involve some grand scale variant of the "one hand in our pockets whilst the other is waving in front of our faces to distract us" strategy.

Bpa in till roll is banned in the EU. "Some workers may be more exposed to BPA than the general public (Bousoumah et al., 2021). As an example, BPA was previously used in thermal receipt papers; as a result, cashiers were highly exposed to BPA via skin contact due to frequently handling receipts (Björnsdotter et al., 2017). A restriction introduced under REACH banned the use of BPA in thermal paper in 2020." https://www.eea.europa.eu/publications/peoples-exposure-to-bisphenol-a Luckily we got the rule before we brexited. I asked on the intranet in a previous job if our till roll has BPA, and they told me it doesn't because it's illegal under EU law.

None of my friends do that, and I am gentle when they do harmless but nonsensical things or simply say nothing because I'm not that much of a maniac, lol. I have no other social media accounts besides this Lemmy one for that same reason. And I don't think negatively of my fellow man, I just think vacuous and consumerist interests are neither artistic nor overall valuable, and dolls are for children. You can still be a lovely person even if you're into dolls in your 30s, of course, but I know we're not gonna have much in common and that's just life.

Something that always confused me about that story: the fairy godmother used magic to enchant Cinders rags to create the illusion of a gown, but the enchantments were supposed to end at midnight. Why didn't the glass slipper revert back to whatever it was before? Was she really scrubbing the floors wearing glass slippers?

No, this is just saying that they have the chromosomes that usually produce male salmon but they have female salmon genitalia. I read that one. Unless I misread they haven't seen these salmon be male and then later female (like the clown fish do).

Prestige and the perception of impartiality, alongside the ability to serve as fall guys. And to a significantly lesser degree they can tell you things you actually don't know or make recommendations when you're stuck because they're an outside set of eyes. What this means is when you decide to make a controversial decision they can take the heat in place of experts, and unlike internal experts you don't wind up in a particularly flimsy situation when you inform them of what they'll be suggesting. And if it all goes as poorly as it might you can blame them. (And everyone knows this so the consultants are shielded) And for the situation where you don't actually know what to do, theoretically thet may or may not be bad at it. If you're stuck you're stuck and not only can they possibly help, they can definitely provide cover for a bad call or an unwinnable situation To a certain degree they're a result of people in a position to spend large amounts of money whose job is to make calls.

Your comment reminded me of number stations. They are radio broadcasts with seemingly random numbers getting transmitted every now and then. A well known one is "The Russian Buzzer" They are really long range, and just about anyone can listen in to these transmissions. But only a tiny number of people (in the buzzer's case maybe Russian spies) know the meaning and act on those signals. I guess my point is that ultimately nobody can really stop the signals, including dog whistles. And I think it's silly when people try to make some of those words taboo. For example if "roommates" is a code word for a queer couple living together the legit use of the word doesn't just disappear

Hence why I suggested trying solid pills. I can't handle the powder or liquid either.

I said Both are possible. How should the choice be made which one to use? I think that clearly is not an argument for middle ground.
