I think the discourse on self-protection has taken a bizarre turn during our lifetimes, where the right and the NRA turned firearms into an unhealthy fetish, and the liberal politicians turned them into frightening campfire stories by spreading fear and ignorance. Both just using it as another tug-rope to "Be opposite those other guys."
Shockingly, there are plenty of normal, responsible armed people who fit neither category. Even socialists. They're just quiet and respectable so they go unnoticed.
But on the whole, this cultural propaganda has resulted in a heavily skewed situation where those with the means to deter tyranny are in lockstep with it, and those with the will to deter tyranny get a bit flummoxed when clever signs aren't enough.
I'm very torn myself, because clever non-violent solutions are obviously preferred, but at the same time these thugs are bullies and cowards, who tend to be confused and frightened when they actually encounter resistance from their would-be victims.

You can only use proportional force to defend yourself under stand your ground laws. If you stab someone that is only using their body parts then you go to jail. Will a jury convict? It will take a year or two to find out.
Not here. Self Defense was proportional response. Stand your ground means you can shoot someone who hasn’t even touched you if they break your car window

That's not true in all states. In Florida, if you feel genuinely threatened, you can respond with deadly force, no matter what the other guy is threatening you with.
And people who write things like that and immediately got a stabbing are definitely not from the same area as you and I must be because whenI think of my self-defence weapon, it’s not my knife

If you stand your ground you still go to jail. Even if you are released you still got more inconvenienced than them.
As a white person I'm at minimal risk from them. But in order to stand your ground for another person they must have a legal right to be where they are. And if they are, in fact, not legally here, then bad things happen to you.
I might still go to jail, but I have taken all of them out so they will never be another problem.
The ones here don’t wear body armour because that would make them stick out more

Easy there, boss. That depends heavily on what state you're in. And the ones that have "stand your ground" and "castle doctrine" are usually the ones where local police are openly coordinating with ICE.
Yeah. Understand your ground you still get arrested when you kill someone. You don’t have to deal with the police you go straight to a local Judge, Who in my county has already ruled people shooting off duty police officers moonlighting as security is perfectly legal

Interesting that Americans always argue that they need their guns in case the government goes rouge. So many comments say that they will get shot, because they absolutely look like kidnappers, yet nothing happens. Looks like you keep those guns around just for a higher suicide rate and school shootings.

I mean I bought my first gun because of what's going on. Revolutions and wars have often been fought by only a few percent of a population. Most people work jobs and keep society plugging along while shit is done by a few.
You sound pretty flippant with people's lives, why don't you go grab a gun and suicide into an armed force for great justice? There's a difference when you're backed into a corner. If they're at MY door, what else can be done but defend my life with my life? Hope I don't get deported to a gulag without due process? Hope that court orders are obeyed when they haven't been?
Other than that, I'll wait until there's an actual organized resistance than suicide by cop as a martyr. I have people I'm responsible for.
