I work with a team of people from all over the world , and the word “eggplant” came up the other day. They asked me why Americans call an “aubergine” an “eggplant.”
So I showed them a photo of an unripe eggplant:

It’s not unique to Americans. A lot of cultures use compound words to describe new things

wrote on last edited by [email protected]Parkway was a road that went near park or other scenic spot. Drive ways were drives that connected private estates to a main road. Way back in the day those could actually be long enough the main house was not visible from the main road.
